Congress wants to make crypto easier to use and still collect $500 million more in taxes

A House crypto tax overhaul would raise an estimated $500 million while easing taxes on stablecoin payments and small fees. The House Ways and Means Committee is scheduled to consider H.R. 10357, the Digital Asset Tax Certainty Act, on Sept. 16, putting a broad rewrite of digital-asset taxation before lawmakers after months of negotiations over how closely crypto should be treated like traditional financial assets. The Joint Committee on Taxation estimates the legislation would increase federal receipts by about $500 million net from fiscal 2027 through 2036, after accounting for provisions that both raise and reduce government revenue. The package includes rules covering stablecoins, transaction fees, trading losses, digital-asset lending, staking and past tax violations. That fiscal outcome reflects the bills central trade-off. Lawmakers would remove some tax friction that makes routine crypto activity cumbersome while extending securities-style rules to traders that could generate billions of dollars in additional receipts. Speaking on the legislation, Andrew Gordon, a crypto tax lawyer, said: “This is a massive step forward for crypto investors who simply want rules on tax. We all pay taxes, the rules need to be clear.” Stablecoin relief comes with a cost Qualifying US dollar stablecoins would receive special treatment to prevent minor movements around their $1 peg

Long-Term Bitcoin Holders Just Stopped Selling After a 260,000 BTC Dump

Bitcoin (BTC) trades near $76,300 after a 3% daily slip. Long-term holders spent August selling into strength, and that selling has now almost stopped. That handover left a mark. Coins leaving long-term wallets went to newer buyers, and one level now decides whether they stay in profit. Sponsored Sponsored Long-Term Holders Sold Harder Than at the Cycle Top Glassnode data shows long-term holder net position change turning sharply negative in mid-August. The wave reached roughly 260,000 BTC, the deepest level since January 2025. The same group was previously buying Bitcoin between March and June. During the late 2025 all-time high, around 170,000 BTC were sold by these long-term holders. So, it looks like they sold more Bitcoin in August, near the $80,000 price mark, compared to when it was $122,000. This shows how much potential profit many long-term holders missed out on. Robinhood Engineers Charged in Hyperliquid Insider Trading Case

Two former Robinhood engineers were charged with fraud on Tuesday in a Hyperliquid insider trading case, accused of buying futures contracts before their employer announced new token listings. Hefu Chai, 36, and Huaisong Xiang, 30, each face one count of violating the Commodity Exchange Act and one count of wire fraud. Prosecutors say the pair made more than $50,000 apiece. “Robinhood takes market integrity seriously and has zero tolerance for insider trading. We have robust insider trading policies and procedures in place, including for new crypto listings. We immediately investigated and reported this matter to law enforcement and regulators, and will continue to cooperate with the investigations,” a Robinhood spokesperson told BeInCrypto. Follow us on Xto get the latest news as it happens Sponsored Sponsored How the Alleged Trades Worked Hyperliquid runs a decentralized exchange built around perpetual futures. These are leveraged bets on a tokens price that never expire, so a trader can hold the position indefinitely. The U.S. Attorneys Office for the Southern District of New York says the two engineers traded between 2025 and 2026. They knew which tokens Robinhood Crypto planned to list, then bought futures on those tokens first. A listing on a large broker usually lifts a tokens price. Selling into that move

SpaceX to decide Starship's orbit mid-flight on Flight 14

SpaceX is planning its first orbital attempt with Starship on Flight 14.The company said in a September 15 update that the rocket pushes for orbit only if it passes a health check partway through the flight. Orbit is the gate SpaceX must pass before Starship can carry its bigger V3 satellites and conduct in-space refueling tests. More than 500 sensors feed the abort call First, the plan keeps Starship on a well-known path. The upper stage will trace the same passively safe, suborbital arc to the Indian Ocean after the ascent burn that SpaceX used on previous tests, the companys update said. Flight controllers get their decision point in the next coast. They clear the vehicle to proceed or let it fall back and splash down. If the vehicle is good, one Raptor sea-level engine fires a circularization burn to place Starship into orbit. SpaceX describes the flight profile as a deliberate staging approach that keeps an ocean splashdown option open at several pre-set points, rather than committing to orbit the moment the engines cut off. A deorbit burn on that same engine ends a nominal mission. The spacecraft can either splash down in the ocean or return to the launch site to be caught and reused. The

Four Republicans vote against the CLARITY Act as cloture fails 49-50

The Senate did not advance the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act on Tuesday, rejecting cloture on the motion to proceed by a vote of 49 to 50. The measure needed 60 votes to overcome a procedural hurdle and fell 11 votes short. Collins, Hawley, Moran, and Tillis broke with their party Every yes vote came from a Republican. Four Republicans broke with their party to vote no: Maine‘s Susan Collins, Missouri’s Josh Hawley, Kansas‘s Jerry Moran, and North Carolina’s Thom Tillis. No Democrat or independent supported the motion. Delawares Chris Coons did not cast a vote. The vote came at 2:19 p.m. ET, recorded as Roll Call 234. A motion to proceed asks one question only: whether the Senate takes a bill up at all. H.R. 3633 never cleared that step. No amendments, no vote on passage. The bill would specify how oversight of digital commodities would be divided between the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. It would also prohibit Federal Reserve banks from offering products directly to individuals and prevent the use of a central bank digital currency in monetary policy. New Zealand Dollar slides ahead of Feds decision

NZD/USD trades close to the 0.5760s, extending a run of losses that has dragged it toward the lower end of its recent range. A broadly firmer US Dollar (USD) is behind the slide, with the greenback supported by climbing United States (US) yields and rate-hike expectations. Markets are expecting the Federal Reserve (Fed) to raise rates on Wednesday, with investors leaning toward a 25 basis points (bps) hike to 3.75%-4.00%, and the risk-off tone has weighed on growth-sensitive currencies like the New Zealand Dollar (NZD). On another note, the 10-year US Treasury yield has climbed to its highest level since 2007, topping 5%, as a more than 3% jump in oil revived inflation worries. New Zealands Q2 Gross Domestic Product is due late on Wednesday, with growth expected to slow sharply to 0.1% on the quarter from 0.8%. Short-term technical analysis: On the 4-hour chart, NZD/USD trades at 0.5757. The pair remains under clear downside pressure as it trades below both the 20-period and 100-period Simple Moving Averages (SMAs), which now cap the upside around 0.5787 and 0.5877 respectively. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) hovers near 30, hinting at stretched but persistent bearish momentum rather than a confirmed reversal. On the topside, initial resistance is

Tether, Binance and a $1.5 billion Iran oil network converge in new US forfeiture case

US prosecutors are seeking to seize $61 million in Tethers USDT tied to alleged black-market Iranian oil sales. Related Asset Tether USDT · Stablecoin On Sept. 14, the US Attorney‘s Office for the Southern District of New York filed a civil forfeiture complaint targeting approximately 61.2 million USDT across 10 Tron addresses. Prosecutors allege the funds came from Iranian crude and petroleum sales intended to benefit the country’s government and military, including the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The tokens were already immobilized. Tether froze seven of the targeted addresses in June 2025 and another three in July. A seizure warrant issued this week now authorizes federal agents to move the value into government custody. Executing that warrant would depend on Tethers control over USDT. The stablecoin issuer would burn the frozen tokens and issue replacements of the same value for transfer to an FBI-controlled hardware wallet, according to the complaint. The mechanism gives US authorities a route from identifying sanctioned funds on-chain to taking custody without obtaining the private keys controlling the original wallets. It also extends a growing enforcement relationship between US agencies and the issuer of the worlds largest stablecoin. Days before the Iran filing, Tether said the Justice Department credited it with

Crypto prices fall as Clarity Act fails to advance in Senate

The global crypto market declines nearly 3% on Tuesday after the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act failed to gather the required 60 votes needed to invoke cloture in the Senate. Cloture is the formal Senate procedure used to break legislative gridlock and force a final vote on a bill. The measure received 49 YEA and 50 NAY votes, falling short of the 60 threshold by 11 despite a series of negotiations from Republican lawmakers and a push from President Donald Trump. Lawmakers react after CLARITY failed to progress Crypto America host Eleanor Terrett noted that several Democrats who spent months negotiating the bill voted NO, with some blaming their Republican colleagues for not including stricter rules. The bills chief author, Senator Cynthia Lummis, blasted Democrats in an X post after the vote ended. Senator Cynthia Lummis. In a bid to gather support, Senate Republicans released an updated version of the bill over the weekend, including concessions to Democrats on stronger crypto ethics rules and a circuit breaker on stablecoin yields. However, the latest additions were not enough to move the needle. In a Monday letter to the Senate Banking

Robinhood Engineers Charged Over Alleged Crypto Listing

U.S. prosecutors charged two Robinhood engineers with fraud over an alleged scheme to trade on confidential information about upcoming cryptocurrency listings. The case centers on trades made through Hyperliquids perpetual futures market. Hefu Chai and Huaisong Xiang allegedly used nonpublic information from Robinhood Crypto to take positions in tokens before the exchange announced their listings. Prosecutors said each engineer made more than $50,000 from the alleged trades. Alleged Use of Confidential Data According to the complaints, Chai and Xiang had access to confidential listing information through their engineering roles at Robinhood. Prosecutors allege they used that information to trade tokens before the listings became public. XRP Ledger Batch V1.1 Nears Activation After Security Rebuild

The bug could have let a malformed signer setup pass validation without requiring the private keys of every other account involved. The XRP Ledgers Batch V1.1 amendment is one validator vote short of reaching the 80% threshold needed to begin its 14-day activation countdown, after a security rebuild that followed a critical flaw in the original version. The revised code has gone through senior engineering review, adversarial testing, two external security reviews, and AI-assisted analysis before its current validator vote. Batch V1.1 Reaches Final Vote Before Activation Countdown RippleX developer Mayukha Vadari said the amendment shipped with xrpld 3.3.0 and is now up for voting. The update replaces Batch V1.0, whose signature-validation bug was found in February while the amendment was still pre-mainnet, meaning no funds were at risk. The original flaw involved an early return in the checkBatchSign function. If a signer account did not yet exist on the ledger, validation could return success without checking the remaining signers. That could have allowed transactions to be executed on behalf of other accounts without their private keys. Batch V1.1 removed that flaw and also addressed several other issues found during the rebuild. The process included review by four senior engineers, a Sherlock Batch Attackathon, a Halborn
