American multinational financial services corporation, Mastercard Inc, is expanding its consulting services and is making commitments to support several innovations in the cryptocurrencies market.  As announced by the Purchase, a New York-based firm, the expanded consulting service will also encompass Open Banking, Open Data, and Environment, Social & Governance (ESG).  Mastercard is a technology-driven firm, also known as one of the credit card payment giants, that is known to have a deep interest in digital currencies as the next big force in payments. Crypto Market Back Above $2 Trillion as Bitcoin, Ethereum Recover

The total value of all cryptocurrencies is once again back above $2 trillion as Bitcoin is testing $44,000 price levels.  Bitcoin has surged 4.7% in the last 24 hours, hitting an intraday high of $44,207 in the early hours on Tuesday, as the overall market recovered nearly $90 billion over the past 24 hours.  As data from CoinGecko shows, the leading cryptocurrency is now up 14% over the last two weeks, helping the broader market recovery. PDAX Raises $50M to Support NFT and Play-to-earn in the Philippines

Philippine-based cryptocurrency exchange Philippine Digital Asset Exchange (PDAX), announced on Thursday, February 10, that it has raised more than $50 million in a funding round led by Tiger Global. The investment from Tiger Global completed the companys Series B round of funding, which began with $12.5 million in August 2021. Netflix to Release Documentary on 2016 Bitfinex Hack

American subscription streaming service and production company, Netflix Inc has announced it is going to release a documentary about the 2016 Bitfinex hack - a financial crime that can earn the tag as one of the biggest financial thefts in history.  In the documentary, Netflix will feature a Manhattan-based couple named Ilya “Dutch” Lichtenstein and Heather Morgan, the alleged mastermind behind the hack that saw over 120,000 Bitcoin units moved from the trading platform. The value of the stolen Bitcoin has grown from the $71 million it was at the time to over $4.5 billion today, and the funds have been sitting in a wallet address controlled by the couple.  Over the years, both Ilya and Heather have been trying to utilize the funds in the wallet through a series of complicated transactions that was eventually tracked by the authorities. SEC Slaps BlockFi With $100 Million Fine – Is That Too Much?

BlockFi may be forced to dig deep into its coffers and pay fines of up to $100 million.  According to credible grapevines, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is looking to slap the crypto lending platform $50 million for providing unregistered securities.  Details have now emerged that an additional $50 million will be paid to five states where BlockFi is being investigated. Binance Invests $200M in Forbes ahead of SPAC IPO
