Introduction: An Exchange That Has “Won Countless Awards” Yet Cannot Be Found by Regulators In the previous 42 editions, we investigated a series of exchanges ranging from HashKey to Bitstamp. In this 43rd edition, we take a closer look at one of the most controversial exchanges in terms of public image versus regulatory reality — LBank (Blue Shell). When it comes to marketing and branding, LBanks profile looks impressive: Founded in 2015, more than 20 million registered users worldwide, daily trading volume exceeding $10 billion, regional sponsorship of the Argentina national football team, ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification, a $100 million futures fund, 10 years without major security incidents, and a team of more than 500 employees. At first glance, it sounds like a major global exchange with a long operating history. However, the other side of the story is very different. In June 2025, Japan‘s Financial Services Agency (FSA) issued an official warning stating that LBank had an “unknown location and unknown representative”. WikiBit’s risk assessment gave LBank a score of 6.66 and flagged it for questionable regulatory licenses and high-risk concerns. The Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) in Canada also placed LBank on its investor warning list. Meanwhile, users on platforms such as Trustpilot and Sikayetvar have complained

A move that would have been unthinkable just three years ago. Citadel Securities, the market-making behemoth known for dominating equities and fixed-income trading, has put $400 million into Crypto.com in the exchanges first institutional funding round, according to the original report. The investment values the crypto exchange at $20 billion and comes with a clear strategic purpose: expanding into tokenized securities and derivatives. It‘s not a random cash infusion. Citadel Securities doesn’t make passive bets. The firm provides liquidity across virtually every major asset class. Pouring this kind of money into a crypto exchange signal-tests a future where tokenized shares, bonds, and structured products trade alongside bitcoin and ether on the same rails. And Crypto.com, already one of the largest centralized exchanges by user count, is positioning itself as the venue where that convergence happens. Tokenized securities, not spot speculation The press disclosure is thin. But the destination of the funds speaks loudly. Crypto.com plans to build out its infrastructure for tokenized securities and derivatives. That‘s a sharp pivot from the pure crypto-native focus that defined the exchange through the last cycle. It also lines up with a wave of activity that has seen tokenized real-world assets cross $20 billion on-chain, as covered

This is a bet on what crypto infrastructure could become, not just what it already is.
