BitMine Holds 6.03M ETH: Distance to Its 5% Ethereum Supply Goal

摘要:BitMine’s October 12 disclosure lists 6,028,946 ETH. A calculation shows the remaining gap to its 5% target under stated supply assumptions.

BitMine Immersion Technologies reported on October 12, 2026 that it held 6,028,946 ether as of October 11 at 1:30 p.m. Eastern Time. The company said the position represented approximately 4.9% of Ethereum's circulating supply and that it had added 12,532 ETH over the previous week. These are company-disclosed holdings; this article does not claim independently audited onchain ownership of every token.

The figures matter because the company's earlier public target was to accumulate 5% of the Ethereum supply. That is a finite threshold, unlike a vague plan to buy cryptocurrency indefinitely. Investors can calculate an indicative remaining gap, while acknowledging that the actual target shifts as circulating supply changes.

Recalculate the threshold using the company's supply assumption

BitMine's October 12 release uses an Ethereum supply estimate of 122.1 million ETH. Five percent of that amount is 6,105,000 ETH. Subtracting the reported holdings of 6,028,946 ETH leaves an indicative gap of 76,054 ETH.

The arithmetic uses only the company's numbers, not a new blockchain-supply reading. It therefore answers a conditional question: how far away is 5% if the denominator stays at 122.1 million and the reported numerator is accurate? If circulating supply or holdings change, the threshold must be recomputed.

At the latest reported weekly increase of 12,532 ETH, the gap is equivalent to about 6.1 weeks of purchases, calculated as 76,054 divided by 12,532. This is a scenario, not a forecast. Actual future purchases could accelerate, slow, stop or be offset by other balance-sheet decisions.

Staking changes the income profile, not the ownership percentage

BitMine separately reported 5,067,309 ETH staked. Dividing staked ether by reported total ether holdings gives an indicative staking ratio of approximately 84.0%. The denominator here is the company's ETH holdings, not Ethereum's circulating supply.

Staking rewards can provide operating income, but investors should distinguish a trailing or projected annualized reward estimate from cash income already received. Realized returns depend on validator performance, protocol conditions, operating costs and the timing of rewards. Staked ether can also be less operationally liquid than immediately transferable inventory, depending on withdrawal mechanics and custody arrangements.

The company also reported 214 BTC and approximately $612 million in cash and marketable securities. Those items are relevant to its overall balance sheet but do not count toward the 5% ETH supply goal.

What happens at 5% is still a management decision

BitMine executives have described the 5% level as an accumulation target. Some subsequent commentary interprets it as a purchasing ceiling. A target is not itself a legally binding order to stop all future acquisition, and a management statement about future behavior can change.

Even if active buying stops at the threshold, the company would remain a major ETH holder exposed to price changes. Its market valuation might reflect assumptions about staking income, funding costs, balance-sheet premiums and future capital issuance—not simply its number of tokens multiplied by spot ETH prices.

The next disclosure has a specific test

The next useful update should report ETH holdings, new purchases, the circulating-supply denominator, the amount staked, and any change in the official 5% policy. Merely repeating that the treasury is one of the largest tells investors little. The measurable question now is whether the final portion of accumulation follows the recent weekly pace, and what operating strategy management adopts once the target is reached.
