Why is bitcoin down today: Hotter-than-expected inflation data knocks BTC below $80,000

U.S. producer prices for April came in far hotter than expected on Wednesday, complicating the Federal Reserves path forward to ease monetary policy later this year. The April Producer Price Index rose 1.4% month-over-month, nearly triple economists expectations for a 0.5% increase. Annual producer inflation accelerated to 6%, while core PPI excluding food and energy climbed 1% on the month and 5.2% year-over-year, both well above forecasts. The report reinforced that inflation is reaccelerating after Tuesdays consumer price index (CPI) rose 3.8% year-over-year, the hottest inflation reading in almost three years. Bitcoin (BTC), which traded above $81,000 overnight, quickly dropped below the key $80,000 level in the minutes following the release before recovering slightly. The largest cryptocurrency was recently changing hands just above $80,000, down about 0.8% over the past 24 hours. Equity futures held relatively steady ahead of the U.S. open, with Nasdaq 100 futures up 0.2% and S&P 500 futures little changed. The inflation surprise adds another layer of uncertainty for the Fed as policymakers navigate rising energy prices tied to the ongoing Iran conflict and persistent concerns over supply disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz. Higher oil prices risk feeding further into inflation data in the months ahead. The report could also revive

Canadian Dollar: Sideways against USD as valuation stretched – Scotiabank

Finance Canadian Dollar: Sideways against USD as valuation stretched – Scotiabank Scotiabank strategists Shaun Osborne and Eric Theoret note USD/CAD is steady around 1.3695, with the Canadian Dollar (CAD) seen as cheap versus a fair value estimate near 1.3510. They highlight slightly wider front-end spreads in favour of the US Dollar (USD) but argues stretched USD valuation should limit further gains. Short-term technicals show resistance near 1.3720 and support around 1.3640/45 and 1.3550/75. Canadian Dollar seen as undervalued “The CAD is little changed against the USD as spot continues to hold within recent ranges. A bounce in risk appetite constitutes a minor plus for the CAD on the session with little else to focus on.” “Factors driving the CAD have drifted a little over the past week—front-end spreads have widened a little in the USD‘s favour—but the CAD remains ”cheap“ relative to our fair value assessment (1.3510 today) still. The USD’s somewhat stretched valuation should constrain scope for gains, all else equal.” “BoC DG Alexopoulos will speak at the Ottawa Economics Association (OEA) and the Canadian Association for Business Economics (CABE) 2026 Spring Policy Conference on AI adoption, productivity and economic potential in Canada. A Ukrainian Ground Robot Drove Into A Russian-Held Building And Blew It Up

Social Media Capture Russian troops hiding inside an abandoned apartment building in Kostiantynivka may have expected Ukrainian drones to come from above. Instead, the assault came on wheels. According to video footage shared by Ukraines 100th Separate Mechanized Brigade, eight Russian soldiers from a sabotage and reconnaissance group had infiltrated the city and entered an abandoned building that Ukrainian forces believed was intended to become a base for future operations. The brigade said its commanders developed a robotic assault after nearby Ukrainian troops were judged insufficient to safely clear the position. Three unmanned ground vehicles were used. One acted as a decoy. Another, reportedly carrying 300 kilograms of explosives, drove into the building from the rear and detonated. A third delivered additional equipment to Ukrainian troops surrounding the damaged building. Ukraine claimed the Russian troops refused to surrender and were later killed. The strike highlights how unmanned ground vehicles, or UGVs, are increasingly moving beyond logistics and evacuation roles into direct assault missions. As aerial drones saturate the battlefield and manpower shortages intensify, both Ukraine and Russia are experimenting with robotic systems capable of carrying heavier payloads into fortified positions and urban combat zones. Ukraine has been experimenting with explosive-laden ground robots for years. In 2023, I

Bitcoin Bitcoin Holds $81K as Schwab Opens BTC Trading, Square Hits 1M Merchants and MARA Sells $1.5B Maelstrom chief investment officer Arthur Hayes argues that escalating AI capital expenditure and the ongoing Iran conflict will force both Washington and Beijing into accelerated fiat issuance, setting up a powerful tailwind for Bitcoin. In a fresh commentary, he frames the AI race as a national security imperative that politicians will fund through printed money and bank loans, calling the combination a perfect environment for crypto. Hayes maintains that a return to the prior all-time high and a $126,000 target is a foregone conclusion, citing BTCs roughly 31% rebound from its February low near $62,822 and its outperformance versus gold and US tech equities since late February. Therefore, this move underscores the unusually strong retail demand for XRP in Korea, a pattern that continues to distinguish the market on a global scale. While Bitcoin still dominates globally, South Koreas crypto market has consistently followed a different rhythm. US PPI Shocker Hits 6% in April 2026, Crushing Fed Rate Cut Hopes

Bond traders priced in renewed Fed rate hike risks, and Goldman Sachs recently pushed back its next-cut forecast to December 2026. Equity futures sold off on the print. The dollar firmed against major peers as widening rate differentials supported the greenback. “Both CPI and PPI Inflation are now officially at 3+ year highs. Odds of rate HIKES are rising,” stated analysts at the Kobeissi Letter. Whether Federal Reserve officials now signal a hawkish pivot will set the tone for risk assets in coming sessions. FalconX Brings Tokenized Credit Vaults to Monad Network

Tech FalconX Brings Tokenized Credit Vaults to Monad Network FalconX has expanded its tokenized structured credit facility to the Monad network, allowing institutional credit vault deposits to be used as collateral in decentralized finance protocols such as Morpho. Tokenization takes traditional credit facilities and represents them as digital tokens on a blockchain. In this case, the facility packages loans originated through FalconXs lending business into tokenized credit products accessible through Pareto vaults curated by M11 Credit. RWA.xyz data shows real-world assets issued onchain have grown to more than $31 billion, including Treasurys, credit products and other financial assets. Credit-related assets alone account for more than $5 billion in distributed value across blockchain networks. The FalconX deployment adds support for using AA_FalconXUSDC vault tokens in onchain lending markets, enabling investors to borrow against institutional credit exposure while maintaining yield-bearing positions. Data from RWA.xyz shows FalconX Credit Vault currently holds about $127 million in distributed value. According to an announcement shared with Cointelegraph, the system also includes automated margin controls, real-time collateral monitoring and onchain settlement features. PANW analysis: Elliott Wave forecasting bullish sequence above $300

The weekly chart above displays a robust impulse wave sequence originating from the June 2013 low. Following this, wave I concluded at the July 2015 high. Subsequently, a 7-swing correction characterized wave II, concluding in March 2017. Beginning from the March 2017 low, wave III initiated and completed a clear impulse wave sequence, with its 5th wave structured as an ending diagonal. Wave III peaked in October 2025, establishing a record high for the stock, with a highly probable breach anticipated soon. The subsequent wave IV pullback seems shallow; however, the ensuing resurgence suggests the price is currently within wave V. At the end of wave V, the stock will complete the impulse cycle from June 2013 in wave (I), which will then be followed by a deep correction in (II). The Elliott Wave analysis suggests a near-exhausted move, something long-term investors should be aware of. In the coming months, buyers could start exiting positions and taking profits, potentially leading to a significant pullback. However, wave V appears to be still in its early stages. We can currently confirm the emergence of wave ((1)) of I, which seems to be in the 3rd wave. We anticipate wave ((1)) to break to a
