A $100 million launch balance doesn’t mean a crypto ETF has real investors

A crypto ETF can arrive with substantial assets before public trading reveals much about outside investor demand. That makes a rising launch benchmark important for ETF sponsors and easy to misread as a market verdict. Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas said on Sept. 15 that average day-one ETF assets had roughly doubled over five years. He also said he was hearing from white-label issuers that $100 million had become the new bar, an observation he attributed to Athanasios Psarofagis. The cited post shows the benchmark is circulating among ETF professionals, but it doesnt include the underlying comparison. Related Person Eric Balchunas Senior ETF Analyst s opening assets can include sponsor or affiliate seed arranged before listing, and authorized participants can later create or redeem blocks of shares in the primary market. Investors can trade existing shares in the secondary market without changing the funds share count, and the value of the crypto portfolio can move AUM even when capital activity is flat. The Investment Company Institutes description of ETF mechanics draws those boundaries directly. They turn “day-one size” into a mixture of sponsor preparation, primary-market activity and asset prices, depending on the fund and the chosen cutoff. BitMart has launched a dedicated user engagement portal for questions about withdrawals and its future plans, giving customers a formal channel to submit concerns as financial adviser Alvarez & Marsal reviews the exchanges position. According to BitMart‘s official announcement, the portal will collect questions, concerns and feedback covering withdrawal arrangements, the exchange’s action plan and its future direction. Submissions will be considered as part of an assessment being conducted by BitMart, Alvarez & Marsal and the companys legal advisers. The portal comes one week after BitMart appointed Alvarez & Marsal as its financial adviser on Sept. 9. As crypto.news previously reported, A&M was brought in to assess the exchanges finances, stakeholder claims and withdrawal arrangements after trading had been suspended. BitMart said at the time that a dedicated user feedback portal would be published within five business days. The company expected to provide details of its action plan and consultation process within three weeks of the Sept. 9 announcement. AI has been a ‘net negative’ for crypto: Phemex CEO

Phemex CEO Federico Variola says AI has been a ‘net negative’ for crypto, despite the crypto exchange announcing an AI-focused transformation earlier this year. Speaking on Cointelegraphs Chain Reaction, Variola said AI has diverted capital away from the industry, while empowering attackers and driving up cybersecurity costs for smaller teams — pressures that risk pushing crypto toward greater centralization. “Its difficult to be bullish about AI in crypto,” he said. “Liquidity have been significantly diverted to to that industry on one side. On the other hand, AI has empowered a lot of bad actors that have been exploiting protocols.” “Its difficult to envision a world in which AI is going to favor crypto specifically as an industry, since a lot of the fixes that we see actually encourage more centralization rather than less centralization.” Variolas assessment offers a skeptical view of AIs impact on crypto. It also comes after his crypto exchange announced an AI transformation in February, when he outlined plans to embed the technology across product development and internal operations, though his latest views focused on the broader crypto industry. AI raises stakes for crypto security Variolas take also comes as AI has been linked to recent crypto exploits. In July, attackers drained roughly $116

Meme coin phishing pages trick traders with fake Cloudflare checks

Meme coin traders have been targeted by phishing pages disguised as Cloudflare verification screens, with one trader reporting a loss of approximately $600,000 after running a malicious script. Market reports on Sept. 16 said several popular meme coin pages have been redirecting visitors to fake verification screens that instruct them to execute commands on their computers, allowing malicious scripts to run and potentially steal crypto assets. ????one of the best Axiom traders just got drained for $600k while trying to bridge to @arc A website will verify a fake cloudfare and asks you to run an admin payload script into your windows which will then drain your whole pc. Polymarket brings blockchain indexing in-house with rindexer for faster data

Polymarket has moved its primary blockchain indexing infrastructure in-house, cutting the time needed to surface some onchain events by as much as 14 blocks, or roughly 28 seconds. Polymarket Vice President of Engineering Josh Stevens said the prediction market platform built the new system internally using rindexer, an open-source indexing tool written in Rust. The infrastructure can index data within 0 to 10 milliseconds of a block being broadcast, according to Stevens. “We now see onchain data events up to 14 blocks (28 seconds) faster, and we index within 0-10ms of block broadcasting, making it nearly instant,” Stevens said. The change means trades, user positions and balances can update more quickly as blockchain events reach Polymarket‘s systems. Stevens said Goldsky, which previously handled important parts of the platform’s real-time blockchain data infrastructure, will remain as a backup while Polymarket primarily operates its own indexing stack. We have built our Polymarket indexing systems in-house, powered by rindexer in Rust. We now see onchain data events up to 14 blocks (28 seconds) faster, and we index within 0-10ms of block broadcasting, making it nearly instant. And in March the SEC and CFTC issued a joint interpretation naming XRP a Crushing Senate defeat Alderotys comments came after the Senate failed to advance the Clarity Act. US charges ex-Robinhood engineers over alleged pre-listing crypto trades

US prosecutors on Tuesday charged two former Robinhood engineers with commodities fraud and wire fraud for allegedly using confidential information about upcoming cryptocurrency listings to profit from perpetual futures trades on Hyperliquid. According to the US Department of Justice (DOJ), Hefu Chai and Huaisong “Jerry” Xiang bought perpetual contracts linked to tokens ahead of Robinhood Crypto listings. The DOJ alleged each profited more than $50,000 from the trades between 2025 and 2026. The DOJ said Chai and Xiang had access to a private company Slack channel containing information about planned listings. Prosecutors allege they used that information to open long positions on Hyperliquid, closing them when their value increased after their debut on Robinhood. The allegations have parallels to the Coinbase insider-trading case in 2023, in which a former employee used confidential information to profit from listings of new tokens by directly buying the underlying asset, though the Robinhood case extends the issue into decentralized derivative markets. Cointelegraph contacted Robinhood for comment but did not receive a response by the time of publication. Robinhood barred employees from trading around listings According to the DOJs complaints, Chai worked at Robinhood from around 2021 until May 2026 and served as a technical lead responsible for new digital-asset listings.
