AEON Launches Agentic Checkout For AI Shopping

Abstract:The AI-economy settlement layer AEON said Thursday it has launched Agentic Checkout, a product that lets artificial intelligence agents autonomously

The AI-economy settlement layer AEON said Thursday it has launched Agentic Checkout, a product that lets artificial intelligence agents autonomously search for, select, and pay for goods across e-commerce platforms including Shopify and Amazon. The Hong Kong-based company announced the launch in a statement distributed through PR Newswire, describing the feature as powered by its AEON AI Card, which gives agents controlled spending ability to turn a users intent into a completed purchase.

How Agentic Checkout Works

Agentic Checkout is natively integrated with the Model Context Protocol (MCP) and the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), which lets a user describe what they want in a conversational interface and have an agent search for products and build a shopping cart. Once an item is selected, the user can authorize the purchase with an AEON AI Card that settles over Visa and Mastercard networks, so the agent completes the transaction without exposing the users primary payment credentials or treasury wallet. AEON said the flow moves from product discovery to cart creation and payment in a single pass.

Controlled Spending Through the AI Card

At the center of the product is the AEON AI Card, which the company said supports single-use agent cards and predefined budget limits so spending authority can be scoped to individual tasks or transactions. AEON said the card is backed by crypto-based authorization and connected to existing Visa payment infrastructure, creating a bridge between on-chain assets and everyday commerce. The design is intended to let agents spend on behalf of users without direct access to their primary wallets or traditional credit cards.

A Broader Commerce Push With Safeguards

Through Shopify, the company said agents can search across more than 3 million active storefronts in over 175 countries, and AEON named Amazon and travel platform Travala as the next environments it plans to support. The company said full card numbers and security codes never enter conversation logs or model context, and uncertain payment states are verified before any retry to prevent double charges. The rollout extends AEONs earlier AI agent payment gateway on BNB Chain and its agentic commerce integration with Reserve. AEON said its settlement layer has processed more than $514 million in cumulative volume across 2.3 million users and is backed by investors including YZi Labs, IDG Capital, and HashKey Capital.
