CFTCs AI will review U.S. crypto registration applications, chairman tells CoinDesk

Already noted for embracing digital assets, the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission is also leaning into artificial intelligence to pick up the slack after slashing more than a fifth of its workforce, Chairman Mike Selig said in an interview with CoinDesk. Selig, who is set to appear at Consensus 2026 in Miami next week, said AI and automation can make up for the personnel cuts under President Donald Trumps campaign to reduce federal staffing. He said the agency — on its way to become a leading U.S. regulator for the crypto sector — is pushing toward using the technology to review registration applications and even help in market surveillance. The CFTC registration process currently relies on the manual submission of documents, Selig said, so “we‘re building out systems to automate that, to make it much more efficient.” “AI tools can be used to review the applications, flag certain things for the staff, make their jobs easier, make it much faster for them to provide feedback and also reject certain things that aren’t materially complete,” he said. “We can see something come in with blank space or inadequate descriptions or things that are clearly wrong, picked up by AI, and it can reject

InStudio Ventures Launches $50 Million Sports Investing Fund Anchored By NFL Team Stakes

The NFL was the last of the four major North American professional sports leagues to allow institutional investors to buy stakes in its teams, changing its ownership rules in 2024, and although InStudio Ventures isn‘t among the eight private equity firms that have earned the league’s stamp of approval, founder and managing partner Danny Cortenraede has found his way into pro football anyway. InStudios stakes in the Buffalo Bills and the Los Angeles Chargers, acquired via a partnership with another firm, are the most attention-grabbing names anchoring a $50 million sports and performance fund the Los Angeles-based firm is launching on Tuesday. But while those prestige assets—along with a small slice of the Aston Martin Formula 1 team—will bolster the funds credibility in a crowded marketplace, Cortenraede plans to invest the majority of its assets in earlier-stage startups bringing AI into sports. “These anchor investments have outperformed the S&P 500 already for 20 years, but we don‘t expect to make 10x our money on them—let’s be realistic,” says Cortenraede, who was raised in the Netherlands and immigrated to the United States eight years ago. “How we will achieve a 3x multiple on our fund is by also investing in sports technology companies.” One portfolio

XRP Price Stuck in Tight Range: $1.20 or $1.50 Next?

Tech XRP Price Stuck in Tight Range: $1.20 or $1.50 Next? The XRP price is trading near $1.38, down approximately -2% over the past 24 hours, with price action compressed into one of the tightest ranges seen in recent weeks. Volume, however, tells a different story: 24-hour trading activity has surged 86.8% to approximately $5.9 billion, a mismatch that rarely goes unresolved for long. Something is building here, even if the direction remains unclear. The token has been oscillating between $1.41 and $1.44 for several days, holding just above an ascending trendline that has served as dynamic support since April. According to technical data on TradingView, buyers currently represent 73.7% dominance at current levels, suggesting seller exhaustion near the $1.40 zone. Analyst Ali Martinez has pointed to favorable conditions for a sharp near-term rally, citing the structure that emerged following XRPs roughly +550% surge in late 2024. Meanwhile, capital rotation toward narrative-driven altcoins has kept XRP relatively underallocated in the short term. Whether that dynamic shifts may depend entirely on the next identifiable catalyst, and none has yet materialized. (SOURCE: TradingView) Can the XRP Price Break Above $1.50 Before a Catalyst Arrives? XRP is consolidating between $1.36 and $1.44, with the 0.236 Fibonacci level at $1.426 acting as

Toku is the first payroll platform to go live on Amplify, which handles the yield infrastructure so platforms do not have to build or maintain it internally. Stablecoin payroll has expanded steadily over the past several years. More than $33 trillion in was processed in 2025 alone, and now account for more than 90% of digital asset compensation payouts. For workers in countries where local currencies lose purchasing power year over year, dollar-denominated pay has become a practical way to preserve savings. One limitation has followed the category. Workers who wanted yield on their balances had to move funds off-platform, use separate accounts, and often hand over custody in the process. Between pay cycles, balances sat idle. The Paxos Labs

Fed: Leadership change and rate-cut pressure – Commerzbank

Finance Fed: Leadership change and rate-cut pressure – Commerzbank Antje Praefcke at Commerzbank discusses the likely confirmation of Kevin Warsh as new Fed Chair in May, potentially succeeding Jerome Powell by mid‑month. The bank highlights questions over Powells future role on the Board and whether Warsh will push for earlier rate cuts despite elevated inflation, as political pressure from the U.S. president raises concerns about long‑term Fed independence. Warsh nomination and policy implications “So its time to turn to another topic: the new Fed Chair.” “Apparently, the senator on the Banking Committee who had intended to veto the nomination of Kevin Warsh has withdrawn his objection after the Department of Justice dropped a criminal investigation into construction work on the Fed building involving current Fed Chair Jerome Powell.” “This clears the way for Warshs election in the committee tomorrow.” “Following tomorrows committee vote, Warsh could be confirmed by the Senate in early May (possibly as early as next week).” “Our economists assume that the Fed will not be able to resist pressure from the U.S. president in the medium term, which is why the key interest rate is likely to be cut for the first time toward the end of the year, with two further cuts expected in

JPY: BoJ holds but signals summer hike – Danske Bank

Finance JPY: BoJ holds but signals summer hike – Danske Bank Danske Banks Danske Research Team notes that the Bank of Japan (BoJ) kept its policy rate at 0.75% with a closer 6-3 vote, reinforcing expectations for a potential June or summer hike. The new outlook highlights stronger inflation pressures than activity, pushing JGB yields higher and strengthening the Japanese Yen. Markets now price roughly a 54% probability of a summer move. Closer vote underpins summer hike risk “As widely expected, the Bank of Japan is on hold this morning keeping the overnight call rate at 0.75%. The decision was taken with a 6-3 vote, a closer call than both at the March and January meetings when only Takata Hajime voted for a hike, supporting our expectation for a June hike.” “The new outlook report suggests that the energy crunch affects inflation more than activity with a 0.5pp revision to GDP growth in the fiscal year (FY) 2026 and only 0.1pp in FY2027 while inflation excluding fresh food and energy has been revised 0.4pp/0.5pp higher respectively.” “The board members forecasts also indicate that they are more worried about faster inflation than the risk on activity.” “The market has reacted with a stronger JPY and JGB yields edging
