Bitcoin Rangebound Near $50K Resistance; Support at $40K

Bitcoin (BTC) is stuck in a sideways range as the short-squeeze rally takes a breather. Buyers could start to take profits ahead of the $50,000 resistance level, although support around $40,000-$42,000 could stabilize a pullback. The worlds largest cryptocurrency by market value was trading around $46,900 at press time and is roughly flat over the past week. The relative strength index (RSI) on the daily chart is declining from overbought levels, which typically precede price pullbacks. The RSI has a slight negative divergence with price as upside momentum wanes. Bitcoin is trading around the 200-day moving average and will need to break out of a short-term range to resume the uptrend. Support is seen around the top of the prior two-month consolidation phase between $40,000 and $42,000. A successful re-test of these levels could yield further upside towards $50,000 and $55,000.

Regulators do not consider the use of bitcoin to pay taxes feasible

The arrival of bitcoin (BTC) to Central America as legal tender by the hand of El Salvador, after the enactment of a law that allows the use of cryptocurrency in the economy of that nation, has made nearby countries such as Costa Rica expose their positions on crypto assets. In that sense, Rodrigo Cubero, president of the Central Bank of Costa Rica, issued a document called “Some considerations around digital currencies and crypto assets.” Among other things, it ensures that the Ministry of Finance of that country, does not see viable the use of cryptocurrencies for the payment of tax obligations, according to the current legal system. To reinforce the idea of the Ministry, Cubero considers that it would not be “desirable” either, for financial and fiscal reasons, due to the “high volatility shown by the value of crypto assets, compared to legal tender”. The Costa Rican official also stated that volatility represents a “strong inconvenience” for the use of cryptocurrencies as a unit of account; that is, to express the price of goods and services. However, Cubero explains that the use of bitcoin is allowed in his country, even if it does not represent legal tender. Anyone wishing to acquire crypto assets does

How Microsoft And Alibaba Will Use Ethereum Against Piracy

Developed by tech giants Microsoft, Alibaba, and Carnegie Mellon University on top of the Ethereum public blockchain, Project Argus is set to reduce internet piracy. The partners recently released a report on the project, its objectives, and potential applications. As the paper describes, companies, such as Microsoft, Apple, and others, spend a lot of time and money trying to prevent piracy and intellectual property theft. These programs are used to have people provide information on entities or individuals committing these illegal activities. The success of these “anti-privacy” campaigns is usually limited due to several issues, mainly the lack of trust from the public. Therefore, the partners proposed Argus, a “fully transparent incentive system” that allows its users to launch anti-piracy campaigns with the Ethereum blockchain. Thus, increasing the effectiveness of this campaign by tackling its core problems: fairness, opaqueness, credibility criteria. As the paper claims, the piracy problems and the campaigns to prevent it are comprised of 3 main parties, the owner of a copyright-protected product, the informants looking to profit, and the perpetrators of the activity. The interests of these parties can be different. Thus, Argus would fill in the role, already carried out by some companies, of operating as an “unbiased contract” solution
