Bank of England's Deputy Governor Says Regulators Need to Urgently Establish Rules

Bank of England Deputy Governor Jon Cunliffe says that a collapse in the cryptocurrency market is certainly “plausible,” stating that regulators worldwide need to pursue crypto rules “as a matter of urgency.” While cryptocurrencies do not currently pose a threat to the countrys financial stability, the deputy governor says there are some “very good reasons” to think that this might not be the case for very much longer. Crypto Collapse Plausible, Crypto Rules Are ‘a Matter of Urgency’ Bank of England Deputy Governor Jon Cunliffe talked about cryptocurrency and its regulation on Wednesday at the SIBOS conference. He emphasized that regulators worldwide need to work quickly and establish rules to regulate cryptocurrencies, given the rapid growth of the industry and how long it takes to put new rules in place. He said: Regulators internationally and in many jurisdictions have begun the work. It needs to be pursued as a matter of urgency. As an example of how long it takes to establish new rules, Cunliffe said that last week global regulators proposed that the safeguards they apply to systemic clearing houses and payment systems should also be applied to stablecoins. "Dogecoin Killer" Shiba Inu Listed on India's Oldest Cryptocurrency Exchange

ZebPay, Indias oldest cryptocurrency exchange with over four million customers, has added support for meme cryptocurrency Shiba Inu, the company announced Wednesday. Last week, the Dogecoin rival started trading on Austrian fintech platform Bitpanda, which has been funded by PayPal co-founder Peter Thiels venture firm. Prior to that, the Shiba Inu-inspired cryptocurrency also became available for trading on Coinbase Pro. Binance, which listed SHIB back in May, remains the biggest market for the meme cryptocurrency, accounting for over 27% of its trading volume. In a March interview, ZepPay CEO Rahul Pagidipati told The Economic Times that the Indian crypto market has plenty of potential for future growth due to its enormous investor base: “India holds less than 1% of the worlds crypto currencies and its potential investor base is 100 million.” While the future of cryptocurrencies remains murky in India due to regulatory uncertainly, Pagidipati is convinced that India will not go as far as banning cryptocurrencies since there is great demand for the new asset class. As reported by U.Today, a Morning Consult survey showed that 86% of Indians have trust in cryptocurrencies despite the governments hawkish attitude toward them. However, they stressed that “every model is an incomplete representation of reality that relies on specific assumptions, some of which may be debatable.” In either case, the finding is based on data from the university‘s own Bitcoin Electricity Consumption Index, which also shows how other countries, including Kazakhstan, Russia, Ireland and Canada, have grown their respective shares at China’s expense. Source: Cambridge Bitcoin Electricity Consumption Index The author said the updated data confirms the trajectory from the previous update (as of the end of April), which showed that the US, Kazakhstan, and Russia were already gaining market share ahead of the crackdown in China. “The immediate effect of the government-mandated ban on crypto mining in

SEC Commissioner says 'safe harbor' laws would've made ICO problems worse

Caroline Crenshaw, a commissioner at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has said the “safe harbor” proposal would have exacerbated the problems seen during the initial coin offering (ICO) boom of 2017 and 2018. Crenshaw made the remarks during the annual “SEC Speaks” event this month, and posted her speech to the SEC website on Oct. 12. The Commissioner argues that the impact on investors and markets would have been far greater if safe harbor provisions were in place at the time:“I think the results would have been even worse for investors and the markets. ICOs and other digital asset offerings raised billions from investors, but most never delivered on their promises. Investors suffered the losses.” “And I think it is not a coincidence that these problematic offerings pre-dated and continued through the beginning of a multi-year downturn in the value of digital assets, sometimes known as the crypto-winter,” she added. The safe harbor proposal has been advocated by crypto-friendly SEC commissioner Hester Peirce. The proposal seeks to grant network developers a three-year grace period to build a decentralized network without fearing SEC legal action, but has yet to be embraced by most of the other commissioners. Peirce, or “Crypto Mom”, put forward

Available information has also shown that it will charge $1 for minting and a 2 percent fee from participants in a transaction. Unlike other NFT marketplaces with loose KYC policies, FTX has revealed that it would maintain its strict KYC for NFT trading on its platform. This, however, could push artists who seek anonymity away to other sites. Brett Harrison, the president of FTX.US while speaking on the announcement revealed that 40 out of the 70 verified collections are now visible on the site. While
