Russian Rubles Could Become 'Worthless' as Allies Target Central Bank After SWIFT Move

After the EU, Canada, and the US agreed to remove selected Russian banks from the SWIFT messaging system, the Russian Central Bank is to be targeted next, which could make rubles “close to worthless.” In a joint statement on Saturday evening, the allies said they commit to ensuring that the Russian banks are disconnected from the international financial system and harm their ability to operate globally. But what comes as a more unexpected and possibly more painful move is that the allies also said they “commit to imposing restrictive measures that will prevent the Russian Central Bank from deploying its international reserves in ways that undermine the impact of our sanctions.” According to Rob Person, an Associate Professor of International Relations at the US Military Academy in West Point, this would mean that the central bank wont be able to access most of its reserves for currency interventions or exchange dollars and euros for rubles. “Rubles could (in theory) become close to worthless, with ordinary citizens conducting exchange in dollars. That would have to be on the black market, since its technically illegal to pay for things with dollars/euros directly. Dollars will be scarce s war represents an assault on fundamental international rules and

Ethereum After 1559: Network Nears 2 Million ETH Burned Worth Over $6.9 Billion

Ethereum Burn Rate Inches Closer to 2 Million Burned, 3.57 Ether Is Burned Every Minute The Ethereum (ETH) network has burned approximately 1,915,220 ethereum and the metric is nearing the two million mark. Since the EIP-1559 improvement was added on August 5, 2021, the community has been observing how much ether is being burned on a daily basis. At the time of writing, the 24-hour burn rate is 3.57 ether per minute or around $9,809.16 every 60 seconds. EIP-1559 essentially changes the algorithm tethered to the base fee per gas in the protocol and it burns the base fee per gas. Ethereum advocates have been fans of the idea because it makes ethereum (ETH) deflationary over time. When the London hard fork was implemented, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin told Bloomberg that EIP-1559 was the most important part of London. “Now it gets much easier to send a transaction that will get included in the next block and thats very important to user experience,” Buterin explained at the time.Gas Fees Remain Dynamic, Opensea the Largest Ether Burning Entity Weeks after the London upgrade, EIP-1559 did not seem to affect the high gas fees users dealt with while trying to send on-chain (layer one) transactions. How Blockchain Is Disrupting the Future of Gaming, From NFTs to Play-to-Earn?

The gaming industry finds itself at an exciting crossroads. AAA Developers seem unable to retain players for more extended periods, whereas play-to-earn games captivate global audiences through monetary incentives. The role of blockchain in the gaming industry will only become more apparent, as there are numerous benefits to unlock. 2021 Was A Good Year For Gaming A recent report on Newzoo confirms the gaming market has not suffered from the global pandemic in 2021. if anything, it has noted strong resilience and even growth in certain areas. That trend continues the 2020 growth, although many people expected a dropoff in revenue for 2021. Instead, consumers spent more on games than before, creating an industry worth over $180 billion. Even though numerous AAA games faced delays and incomplete launches, and supply shortages affected new game hardware deliveries, gaming remains as popular as before. It is no longer a “seasonal” industry where numbers pick up during highly anticipated release windows. Instead, the new era of gaming content can continually attract users, spending, and growth. One of the crucial growth trends in the mobile space. It is – by far – the most prominent aspect of the gaming industry today, yielding over $93 billion in revenue. That

What happened to the BitMEX founders in New York federal court?

BitMEX co-founders Arthur Hayes and Benjamin Delo have pleaded guilty to breaking anti-money laundering (AML) regulations in the U.S. Southern District Court of New York. This caps a long-running saga in which the pair were indicted by the Department of Justice (DoJ), in October 2020, on charges of violating the Bank Secrecy Act and operating inadequate AML procedures on the derivatives exchange platform. “conspiring to violate the Bank Secrecy Act, by willfully failing to establish, implement, and maintain an adequate anti-money laundering (”AML“) program at the Bitcoin Mercantile Exchange or ”BitMEX.“” Fellow co-founder Samuel Reed and Head of Operations Gregory Dwyer were also named in the DoJ notice. But details of Reeds case have yet to be made public. Dwyer delayed his court appearance to October, arguing a lack of preparation time due to fighting extradition from Bermuda to the U.S. In entering their guilty pleas, Hayes and Delo agreed with New York prosecutors to pay $10 million each. But both men will return to court for a sentencing hearing, raising questions over the judiciarys treatment of cryptocurrency versus banking. The fall of BitMEX Launched in April 2014, BitMEX was one of the first crypto derivative platforms. Is there a future for digital fashion in the Metaverse?

Courtesy of Kat Taylor Cattytay, digital fashion appeared in 2017. However, we began to talk loudly about it only in 2020. It all began five years ago when Kat first made an Instagram post with the caption “Virtual Clothing!!!” Then, there was a collaboration with Adidas, Off-White, Vetements and Balenciaga. These brands were interested in introducing fashion digitalization even before it blew up in the mass media discourse. Note that the COVID-19 pandemic had yet to happen and people were not stuck at home. Thus, there was no need for digital clothing at all. Nevertheless, it happened and fashion digitalization was predicting the future in the virtual realm. Of course, we all have tested virtual clothing in computer games way before Cattytay, but it was far from the fashion. Beggars can’t be choosers, as we say. These were jeans and shirts in the Sims and various armor in Shooters. But, no one could even imagine that in the near future, we would try on brand sneakers in a specially created application or that we would do it even for money, as it happened in March 2021 with the collaboration between Gucci and the Belarussian company Wanna. The first virtual sneakers could be

World’s first NFT vending machine arrives to New York City

Neon, an NFT marketplace and gallery built on Solana recently rolled out the worlds first NFT vending machine–located just off Wall Street in New York. The machine operates 24/7 and facilitates NFT purchases with no cryptocurrency, crypto wallet, or specialized knowledge required. How does it work? Located in the Big Apples financial district, the unique vending machine accepts USD credit and debit cards. Upon purchase, it allegedly dispenses a box containing a unique code for the chosen NFT, which can then be redeemed on the Neon platform. “Our goal is to support artists and creators by letting them sell digital art to everyone, and to help anyone who wants to become a collector,” explained Jordan Birnholtz, CMO and co-founder of Neon, in an official press release. According to Birnholtz: “NFT buying and selling doesn‘t need to be a mystery and you shouldn’t be required to hold Ethereum, write a smart contract, pay gas costs or bridge blockchains to participate.” The CMO elaborated that Neon wanted to “engage the widest possible audience,” which entails decoupling cryptocurrency from NFT participation.Allowing NFT artists to reach new collectors “While only 2% of Americans have digital wallets, 80% have a credit card or debit card,” he argued, implying that there

EU securities regulator recommends ban on proof-of-work crypto

European Securities and Markets Authority is concerned over the risks bitcoin mining poses to meeting climate change goals under the Paris agreement. Erik Thedéen, the vice-chair of the watchdog, told the Financial Times in an interview that there has been a significant rise in the amount of renewable energy dedicated to crypto mining. He added that mining has become a “national issue” for his home country Sweden. Thedéen also said that he is not advocating to ban crypto in general but recommending a ban on proof-of-work mining move the industry toward the proof-of-stake model, which consumes less energy overall. Mining has become a huge business over the last decade and shows no sign of slowing down. Computing power dedicated to the industry reached record levels at the end of 2021, despite a wholesale ban on mining and crypto in China which was one of the biggest crypto markets in the world. Proof-of-work vs. Proof-of-stake Proof-of-work is the process through which a blockchain verifies blocks, or transactions, as being legitimate. Miners dedicate computing power to compete against each other to solve complex problems in order to verify transactions. In return, they are rewarded with coins. The Proof-of-work model requires every participant on the blockchain to verify transactions,
