Embattled Crypto Firm FTX Wants to Sell Its Functioning Units, Including LedgerX

On Thursday, cryptocurrency exchange FTX asked a federal court for permission to sell several subsidiaries, including US-based derivatives wing LedgerX. Attorneys for FTX stated in a document filed with the Bankruptcy Court of Delaware that it was a priority for the companys current management to “explore” the sale or find other strategic transactions for certain subsidiaries. “Based on their preliminary review, the Debtors own or control a number of subsidiaries and assets that are regulated, licensed, and/or largely unintegrated into the Debtors operations, both within and outside of the United States,” according to the filing. “The Debtors believe that a number of these entities have solvent balance sheets, independent management, and valuable franchises,” according to the statement. LedgerX was one of these units, which also did business as FTX US Derivatives, FTX Japan, FTX Europe, and Embed Business. Because the majority of these entities were acquired by FTX relatively recently, they functioned largely independently of their global parent. As a result, unlike some of the companys other subsidiaries, their assets and funds are kept separate from FTX. In congressional testimony, FTXs new CEO, John Ray III, stated that even companies ostensibly separate from FTX, such as FTX US, were not truly independent. FTX filed for bankruptcy

Crypto Company Amber Enhances $300 Million to Address FTX Breach

When Sam Bankman-FTX Frieds exchange went up in flames, Amber, a prominent cryptocurrency trading and lending platform, reversed course from its original goal to fund $100 million at a $3 billion value in several installments, according to Wu. The current Series C round is being managed by venture capital company Fenbushi Capital US, Wu said, stressing that the value is smaller than the $3 billion obtained in February. “We made a swift decision to effectively pause the previous round,” he added. An email asking for comment was not immediately answered by Fenbushi Capital. Just under 10% of Singapore-based Ambers total trading capital was on FTX at the time of the exchanges insolvency. Since then, Wu claims, as Ambers total trading volume has decreased, that fraction has increased. According to Wu, the company is slashing expenses as it returns to its roots of solely serving institutional and wealthy clientele. According to him, Amber would employ no more than 300 workers, which had been the companys number at the end of 2020 and the beginning of 2021. Crypto platforms are attempting to allay client concerns as FTXs contagious effects spread. Subsequently, businesses like BlockFi Inc., which is currently insolvent, Blockchain.com, and Blockstream sought to raise money at

Stellar collaborates with UNHCR to provide funds via USDC to Ukrainian refugees.

One recent initiative aims to assist Ukrainian refugees who lack access to banks, while someone else aims to streamline global Red Cross initiatives. Blockchain technology is increasingly employed by humanitarian organizations to address issues with insufficient identification authentication or a shortage of banking in undeveloped or war-torn countries. In December, 2 additional initiatives were unveiled, one of which aims to continue providing cash aid to Ukrainian refugees via the Stellar network and the other of which aims to do the same using the Partisia network. However, previous blockchain initiatives have had considerable results. With certain projects, recipients have been able to avoid red tape and receive the assistance they require, but with others, the usage of blockchain has shown to be unnecessary. Over December 15, Stellar Development Foundation made the announcement that it had partnered with the UNHCR to distribute USD Coin (USDC) on the Stellar system as a form of financial aid to Ukrainian refugees. Any MoneyGram station will accept the USDC tokens for redemption. The programs developers believe that even if migrants lack bank balances or are unable to use the ones they do have, it will be simpler for them to get aid as a result. According to Tori Samples,

The safest country for FTX clients was Japan.

The enormous hydra FTX had branches all across the world. Among these subsidiaries, FTX Japan, seems to have fared rather well amid the breakdown of FTX and its entry into bankruptcy court. In the event that FTX Japan succeeds, the following are some lessons that other countries can take away from Japans experiences. In the beginning of 2022, Bahamas-based FTX bought FTX Japan, a cryptocurrency exchange with headquarters in Japan that was formerly called Liquid. While most FTX companies clients are still waiting to hear back from them, FTX Japan claims to be almost there: “We have put together a plan for the resumption of withdrawal service, which has been shared with and approved by the new FTX Trading management team. Development work for this plan has already started and our engineering teams are working to allow FTX Japan users to withdraw their funds.” Due to “how these assets are held and property interests under Japanese law,” the exchange claims that Japanese customers cash and cryptocurrencies wont be entangled in American bankruptcy procedures. Clients cash from the largest exchange, FTX International, with offices in Chicago, the Bahamas, and Australia are still mired in insolvency. What is it regarding Japan that might allow FTX clients

CFTC considers Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tether to be commodities

In its Dec. 13 court filing against FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried, the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) stated that digital assets such as Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Tether (USDT) are commodities. According to the CFTC, these digital assets are commodities because they satisfy the definition of the term as defined by the United States Constitution. Is the CFTC Chairman of a different mind? While the CFTC lawsuit stated that ETH was a commodity, CFTC chairman Rostin Behnam appears to view the asset differently. Benham stated at a recent private cryptocurrency event at Princeton University that BTC is the only cryptocurrency that should be classified as a commodity. The statement contradicted the regulatory chiefs previous ones. In a CNBC interview in May, Benham stated that Bitcoin and Ethereum were suitable for classification as commodities. He reportedly said something similar at a New York event in October, implying that SEC chair Gary Gensler has a different opinion. Following the migration of ETH to the proof-of-stake network, Gensler reportedly stated that cryptocurrencies that allow staking could qualify as securities under the Howey test. Meanwhile, token classification remains a major issue in the United States, with regulators failing to clarify how assets can be classified. The SEC and crypto payment

In a blog post published on December 13 by Binance US, the company confirms that Pay transactions will not incur any transfer or gas costs and mentions that the app is now only accessible on mobile devices while getting ready to launch a web page “which will arrive in the near future.” While everything was going on, Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ) praised the Binance American branch and urged them to “Keep developing!” Users of Binance.US must upgrade to the newest version of the app, go through the identification authentication, and fill their Pay wallet in order to utilize the additional services. However, the tool is limited to facilitating user-to-user payments on the Binance US mobile app. Every 24 hours, users can get up to $1 million in cryptocurrency. The most recent
