U.S. bitcoin ETFs suffered $635.49 million in net outflows on Thursday, abruptly interrupting a three-session run that had attracted more than $1 billion.

Key Takeaways

  • Bitcoin ETFs lost $635.49M on Thursday, erasing nearly 60% of the prior three-day inflow streak.
  • Blackrock and Fidelity drove most selling as ether also reversed back into heavy outflows.
  • Weekly bitcoin flows remain positive, but rapid reversals show institutional conviction is fragile.

Bitcoin ETFs Suffer Biggest Outflow Since June

The institutional tide turned with remarkable speed.

A day after bitcoin ETF buying broadened across eight funds, investors pulled $635.49 million from the category. It was the largest daily outflow since June 25 and erased almost 60% of the $1.08 billion accumulated during the previous three sessions.

Blackrock‘s IBIT lost $254.05 million, while Fidelity’s FBTC shed $217.46 million. Those two funds accounted for roughly 74% of Thursdays withdrawals.

Ark and 21Shares‘ ARKB lost $109.43 million, Grayscale’s GBTC shed $29.53 million, and Bitwise‘s BITB posted a $27.35 million exit. Morgan Stanley’s MSBT provided the lone inflow at $2.33 million.

Trading value reached $2.56 billion across the funds, while net assets fell by nearly $5 billion to $104.71 billion.

The speed of the reversal offers the clearest insight into current bitcoin positioning.

IBIT and FBTC attracted a combined $447.70 million on Wednesday—and 24 hours later, they lost $471.51 million. Across those two sessions, their combined flow was therefore slightly negative despite Wednesdays buying surge.

That suggests investors remain willing to deploy capital aggressively, but conviction is highly sensitive to shifts in bitcoins price and broader risk sentiment. The price of bitcoin plunged Thursday below the $81,000 mark after coming close to hitting $85,000 on Wednesday.

Even after Thursdays drawdown, bitcoin ETFs remain positive by $442.67 million for the week. Month-to-date flows, however, have slipped back to a $174.50 million deficit.

Ether Recovery Proves Equally Fragile

Ether ETFs followed the same pattern.

Wednesday‘s $14.96 million inflow gave way to a $110.50 million withdrawal on Thursday. Blackrock’s ETHA lost $75.45 million, while ETHB shed $17.17 million.

Grayscale‘s Ether Mini Trust and ETHE lost $10.69 million and $9.56 million, respectively, while Fidelity’s FETH attracted $2.37 million. Trading activity reached $550.23 million, with net assets falling to $14.57 billion.

The quick reversal reinforces ethers weaker institutional profile in October. Positive sessions have repeatedly appeared, then failed to develop into sustained accumulation.

Zcash Builds Momentum as Solana Slips Again

Zcash stood out with a second consecutive inflow. Grayscales ZCSH attracted $14.23 million, bringing its two-day total to roughly $29.4 million. Net assets closed at $681.39 million.

XRP ETFs added $3.55 million through Franklin‘s XRPZ, while NEAR attracted another $513,060 through Bitwise’s NRR.

Solana‘s brief recovery disappeared quickly. After ending a 12-session outflow streak on Wednesday, the category lost $8.51 million on Thursday. Bitwise’s BSOL shed $5.72 million, and Grayscales GSOL lost $3.22 million.

HYPE ETFs also recorded $7.88 million in withdrawals.

The broader crypto ETF market therefore remains highly selective. Bitcoin still has a positive weekly cushion, but Thursday showed how quickly that support can shrink when the largest funds reverse together.
