TLDR

  • BitGo completed the acquisition of NYDIGs institutional trading business and related assets on August 27.
  • The deal adds derivatives, structured products, financing, and capital markets services to BitGos platform.
  • Around 30 NYDIG employees and existing institutional client relationships will move to BitGo.
  • BitGo aims to strengthen its regulated platform covering custody, trading, financing, settlement, and digital asset services.
  • NYDIG will now focus on power generation, Bitcoin mining, and high-performance computing data centers.

BitGo has completed the acquisition of NYDIGs institutional trading business and related assets, adding new trading, financing, and derivatives capabilities to its platform. The deal, announced on August 27, also brings about 30 NYDIG employees and their institutional client relationships into BitGo.

The acquisition expands BitGos push to offer more services to professional investors through one regulated platform. The company already provides custody, wallets, staking, settlement, and trading services to institutions across digital asset markets.

BitGo Expands Institutional Markets Platform

BitGo said NYDIG‘s team will add expertise in derivatives, structured products, financing, and capital markets. These services will sit alongside BitGo’s existing custody and trading operations rather than replace current products.

CEO Mike Belshe said institutions increasingly want one partner that can support digital assets from custody and trading through financing and settlement. BitGo expects the acquired business to help it serve a wider group of institutional clients.

NYDIG will now direct more resources toward power generation, Bitcoin mining, and high-performance computing data centers. The move continues a strategy that has reduced its focus on financial services while increasing investment in energy and computing infrastructure.

The company has expanded this area through earlier deals. In March 2025, NYDIG acquired Crusoe Energys Bitcoin mining operations, including more than 270 megawatts of power generation technology. NYDIG says its development pipeline now exceeds 3 gigawatts.

Mining Firm Targets AI Infrastructure Growth

NYDIG expects more than 1 gigawatt of its pipeline to become available in 2027 and 2028. The company plans to use its power and data center assets for Bitcoin mining, AI training, AI inference, and other computing workloads.

CEO Tejas Shah said the sale allows NYDIG to focus on its high-performance computing data center business. The company remains affiliated with Stone Ridge Holdings Group, which controls assets linked to about 3% of US natural gas production.

BitGo listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker BTGO in January. Its shares rose 1.99% on Thursday and closed at $7.16 following the acquisition announcement.

The deal gives BitGo an established trading team and client base without building those capabilities from the ground up. It also adds more tools for institutional clients seeking custody, trading, financing, derivatives, and settlement through one provider at scale.
