How Big Was the Binance Hack?

On October 29, an attacker moved roughly $6.36 billion out of Binances exchange wallets across 10 blockchains, according to analytics firm TRM. Most of the money left in about 20 minutes.

TRM linked the theft to TraderTraitor, a North Korean hacking unit. The haul is about four times the $1.5 billion Bybit hack of February 2025, the previous record.

Binance suspended deposits and withdrawals and said user funds are safe. Token issuers and network operators have frozen about $2.7 billion of the stolen assets, TRM said.

Is One Day of Withdrawals a Warning Sign?

Fridays exit equals about 0.7% of the money held in the funds.

A similar exit came on October 22, when investors pulled $635 million in one session. Inflows then returned for four straight days starting October 26.

Is Bitcoin Headed for a Second Losing October?

About $11 billion in Bitcoin options, contracts that bet on future prices, also expired on October 30. The Bitcoin price today sits at $77,189, down 1.7% in 24 hours, BeInCrypto data shows.

Monthly return data shared by trader Crypto Rover shows Bitcoin down 7.3% for October so far. The coin also fell 3.95% in October 2025.

Back-to-back losing Octobers have happened only once before, in 2011 and 2012. The same data puts Bitcoins average October gain at 26%.

For fund holders, the next sessions will show whether Fridays exit looks more like October 22 or February 2025.
