Elon Musk Predicts AI Agents Will Steal Crypto for Themselves

Extrait:Elon Musk has predicted that superintelligent AI agents will eventually start stealing cryptocurrencies for themselves, reacting to the massive $6.3 billion Binance hack.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk expects superintelligent artificial intelligence (AI) agents to begin stealing crypto to make money for themselves instead of humans.

Musk shared this prediction on October 30 on the social media platform X as he gave his take on the massive security breach at Binance that involved around $6.3 billion in crypto assets.

“Super intelligence agents will at some point do this to gain currency for themselves not a human,” Musk tweeted.

His post came as a reply to a post by crypto commentator Blaney that explained how the hacker allegedly circumvented measures to freeze crypto stolen from Binance.

Blaneys post indicated that Tether and Circle, issuers of stablecoins, had frozen billions of dollars' worth of USDT and USDC in response to the Binance security breach.

The post added that the hacker was seemingly able to obtain Ethereum (ETH) before the funds could be completely frozen.

The hacker reportedly deposited $60 million worth of USDT into the decentralized lending protocol Aave to borrow around $44.6 million worth of wrapped ETH.

Unlike centralized stablecoins like USDT and USDC, ETH cannot be frozen by a centralized issuer.

Musk speculated that superhumanly intelligent AI agents could do all of this on their own to get crypto for themselves in the future.

Massive security breach at Binance

Musk‘s warning came after one of the largest security breaches in crypto history hit Binance, the world’s largest crypto exchange.

The breach involved around $6.3 billion in crypto assets, according to Binance.

Binance has already frozen around $3 billion worth of affected assets in collaboration with its blockchain partners.
