Crypto Donations on Wikimedia Platforms Have Been Stopped
The Wikimedia Foundation has stated that bitcoin donations will be suspended across all of its sites. The move was necessitated by requests from the Foundations donor community, as stated in an announcement shared by the Foundation. The Wikimedia Foundation is an umbrella organization for a collection of platforms that follow the Wiki style of website, which allows for modification by multiple internet users. Wikipedia, Wikibooks, Wikiversity, and Wikinews are some of the branches within the companys body. The Wikimedia Foundation began accepting digital currencies for donations in 2014 at the request of its community, and it stated that the decision to discontinue these forms of donation is the result of months of discussion by the same community about the suitability of digital assets as donation assets for the platform. “The Wikimedia Foundation has decided to discontinue direct acceptance of cryptocurrency as a means of donating. We began our direct acceptance of cryptocurrency in 2014 based on requests from our volunteers and donor communities.
