Ledgers answer to wallet tampering costs $849 and ships next year

摘要:Ledger introduced Atom, a new crypto security device with anti-tampering features, days after confirming compromised wallets sold by an authorized Asian reseller.

Ledger unveiled a new device on Thursday with stronger protections against tampering, days after confirming that wallets sold through a reseller in Asia contained malicious implants.

The French hardware wallet maker introduced Atom, an $849 device that combines a crypto wallet with everyday apps through a smartphone-like design. Atom separates Android apps from sensitive wallet operations and includes protections Ledger says would block the implants used in the recent Asia incident. Its also advertised to detect tampering even when switched off.

The company expects to begin shipping the device in summer 2027, according to an announcement shared with Cointelegraph.

Ledger said Atom will also support AI agent approvals, encrypted messaging and post-quantum cryptography.

The announcement follows a security incident that surfaced on Friday involving malicious implants found in wallets sold through authorized reseller CryptoBilis. Ledger has requested that distributors in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong suspend sales of its products. European retail chain MediaMarkt has also pulled Ledger wallets off its shelves.

Asked when Atoms anti-tampering protections were developed, a Ledger spokesperson said the work was not a response to isolated incidents. The spokesperson did not provide a development timeline.

In a separate blog post on Thursday, Ledger said it had introduced new rules requiring authorized resellers to keep devices off display and hand them to customers at purchase. It also reiterated that returned devices must never be resold.
