Mastercard expands stablecoin push with Crypto Credential pilot

摘要:Mastercard has partnered with Borderless.xyz to pilot its Crypto Credential framework for cross-border stablecoin payments, testing how the framework's assurance signals can support trusted interactions across Borderless.xyz's network. The companies said the pilot will evaluate how participating firms integrate those signals into approval, compliance, and risk workflows. Network participants Infinia, Walapay, and Koywe have joined as early stablecoin payment operators. Raj Dhamodharan, Mastercard's executive vice president for Blockchain & Digital Assets, said the partnership builds on the Start Path relationship and aims to bring greater trust to stablecoin payment flows. The pilot follows Mastercard's completed acquisition of BVNK, its June rollout of regulated stablecoin settlement support for assets such as USDC, PYUSD, and RLUSD, and its March launch of a Crypto Partner Program involving over 85 crypto-native companies.

Quick Take

  • Mastercard has partnered with Borderless.xyz to pilot its Crypto Credential framework for cross-border stablecoin payment flows.
  • The pilot marks Mastercards latest stablecoin initiative following its BVNK acquisition, regulated stablecoin settlement rollout, and crypto partner program.

Mastercard is expanding its stablecoin payments infrastructure through a new pilot with global liquidity network Borderless.xyz that will test how its Crypto Credential framework can support trusted interactions across cross-border stablecoin payment flows, the companies announced Wednesday.

Mastercard Crypto Credential provides a framework for verifying participants in blockchain transactions through standardized assurance signals that can be integrated into compliance and risk processes, according to a statement shared with The Block.

The companies said they will use the pilot to evaluate how the framework performs across Borderless.xyz's stablecoin payments network, with participating firms incorporating its assurance signals into their approval, compliance, and risk workflows.

Our relationship with Borderless.xyz began through Start Path and has continued to grow as the digital asset ecosystem has matured,“ Raj Dhamodharan, executive vice president, Blockchain & Digital Assets at Mastercard, said. ”Today, we're excited to take the next step together, exploring how Mastercard Crypto Credential can help bring greater trust and confidence to stablecoin payment flows across a growing network of participants.

Borderless.xyz operates a stablecoin orchestration and liquidity network and says it connects wallet infrastructure with more than 15 licensed stablecoin providers across more than 100 countries.

According to the statement, network participants Infinia, Walapay, and Koywe have joined the pilot and will be among the first stablecoin payment operators to use Mastercard Crypto Credential within a single-audit compliance model at network scale.

The pilot adds to Mastercard's broader stablecoin expansion. Earlier this week, the company completed its acquisition of stablecoin infrastructure firm BVNK, following its June rollout of regulated stablecoin settlement support for assets including USDC, PYUSD, and RLUSD across its global payments network.

In March, Mastercard also launched its Crypto Partner Program, bringing together more than 85 crypto-native companies, payment providers, and financial institutions to develop enterprise use cases including cross-border remittances, settlement, and payouts.
