Ethereum Foundation To Step Back As Ecosystem Matures, Says Vitalik

Vitalik says Ethereum Foundation will shrink its influence and become one node among many.Ethereum will prioritise CROPS values over competing on transaction speed like rival chains.EF board is expanding while Vitalik says his own influence will continue decreasing. Vitalik Buterin has revealed a major shift in the future direction of the Ethereum Foundation, saying the organization wants to become “one node among many” instead of acting as the center of the Ethereum ecosystem. In a post discussing Ethereums future, Buterin explained that the Foundation is moving toward a smaller, more focused, and more opinionated structure centered around decentralization, privacy, censorship resistance, and long-term sustainability. Ethereum Foundation Wants Less Centralized Influence Buterin said the Ethereum Foundation was never meant to permanently control the network and that its role should gradually decrease over time. He added that the Foundation‘s board is currently expanding and that his own influence inside the organization will continue decreasing, something he described as healthy for Ethereum’s long-term future. According to Buterin, many people inside the crypto industry have increasingly questioned whether Ethereums actions still reflect its original values around decentralization, privacy, and open systems. Ethereum Will Prioritize “CROPS” Technology Instead of competing mainly on transaction speed or trying to maximize TPS numbers like many rival

No, Ripple-Backed Ethereum DeFi Protocol Squid Router Isnt Drained for $3 Million

Cross-chain platform Squid Router, which recently raised $6 million from Ripple, mistakenly found itself at the center of a scandal due to a hacker attack on third-party software with a similar name. Initial reports on social media claimed that $3 million had been stolen from the protocol, but on-chain analysis and official statements from the developers refuted these rumors. As revealed from reports by Blockaid and PeckShield, due to a critical vulnerability in the code of the third-party SquidRouterModule module, the attacker was able to bypass the security check using a publicly available text string and impersonate a trusted delegate. Since the affected users had previously added this defective contract to their wallets as trusted, the hacker gained the right to spend their assets without personal signatures. Through Uniswap V3, the hacker forcibly swapped the victims real tokens for fake tokens, then extracted liquidity and withdrew the funds to wallet “0xA447…54859”. As a result, the hacker drained 86 Gnosis Safe addresses across Ethereum and Base in just two hours, stealing 3.07 million DAI. Tom Lees Ethereum Portfolio Sits on $7.35B Loss as ETH Price Slumps

Tom Lees BitMine faces about $7.3 billion in paper losses on its Ethereum treasury as Ether (ETH) traders weigh worsening sentiment, ETF outflows and a bearish chart setup pointing toward $1,600. Key takeaways:Bitmine keeps buying ETH even as its losses mount amid the 57% price drawdown from the August 2025 high.ETH price technicals warn of a 25% drop, which would push Bitmines losses over $10 billion. Lee continues buying ETH despite mounting losses Ether has fallen more than 57% from its October 2025 peak near $4,955 on Coinbase, with the sell-off also eroding Ethereums market share. ETHs dominance (ETH.D) has dropped to about 10%, down from roughly 15% in August 2025. BitMine began building its Ethereum treasury in July 2025, days after closing a $250 million private placement to fund the strategy. By July 14, the company disclosed holdings of 163,142 ETH, worth about $500 million at the time. As of last week, BitMine held 5.28 million ETH, or about 4.37% of Ethereum‘s total supply, making it the world’s largest publicly traded Ether treasury company. That means Tom Lees firm kept accumulating ETH through the drawdown, even as its losses widened. Lee has not treated the losses as a reason to retreat. In February, he argued

Tokenized real world assets triple to $34 billion as Treasuries and Ethereum lead

The on chain market for tokenized real world assets has hit a fresh record near $34 billion, more than tripling from roughly $5.4 billion at the start of 2025, with Ethereum carrying about 60 percent of that value and tokenized U.S. Treasuries alone now accounting for around $15 billion.RWA.xyz and recent market reports put tokenized RWA TVL (ex stablecoins) around $31 billion to $34 billion as of May 2026Ethereum hosts roughly 60 percent of RWA value, led by BlackRocks BUIDL fund and Ondo Finance productsTokenized Treasuries sit near $15 billion in AUM, while commodities, private credit and tokenized stocks are the fastest growing segments Several independent data sources converge on the same order of magnitude for current RWA size. MetaMask, citing RWA.xyz, says that as of April 2026 tokenized U.S. Treasuries held about $12.88 billion on chain and that “the total distributed value of tokenized RWAs surpassed $31 billion by May 2026.” InvestaX‘s Q1 2026 market report puts the tokenized RWA market (excluding stablecoins) at roughly $29 billion by the end of March after growing about 30 percent in the quarter, while Binance Square’s May update notes that the sector “has seen significant growth, reaching approximately $31.4 billion by May 2026.” How big has

Trader Linked to Whale now down $128 million after Ethereum wipeout

Onchain analytics firm Bubblemaps says a Hyperliquid whale linked to former BitForex CEO Garrett Jin and the infamous 10 10 short trade would have been up more than $70 million if he had never traded Ethereum, but is instead sitting on roughly $128 million in net losses after catastrophic ETH longs erased huge prior gains.Bubblemaps estimates the trader is down $128 million overall despite earlier nine figure winsThe whale reportedly made about $100 million shorting BTC in the October 10, 2025 flash crashSubsequent outsized ETH longs on Hyperliquid led to more than $200 million in realized lossesA linked wallet has now rotated into Hyperliquid again, buying $10 million of HYPE and shorting $38 million of ZEC In a new onchain breakdown shared on X, Bubblemaps reconstructs the PnL of the wallet cluster it associates with Garrett Jin, arguing that if the trader had simply held BTC and avoided the ETH leverage spiral, his net profit would stand north of $70 million; instead, the account is now “down $128M overall” after a brutal series of Ether trades. The cluster has been in the spotlight since the so called 10/10 crash on October 10, 2025, when a Hyperliquid whale built massive short exposure into

Why Traders Pile Into AI and Perp Tokens Early

Allocating Between AI and Perps: Practical Scenarios Different market states favor different tilts. If broader tech markets are buzzing about AI hardware and models, AI infrastructure tokens can front-run attention. If crypto-native leverage is surging, perp DEX tokens with fee exposure can respond quickly to on-chain activity. A barbell approach—some AI infra, some fee-exposed perp tokens—can diversify within the same “first mover” basket. Position sizing should reflect conviction and data. For AI, track developer activity and network usage claims critically. For perps, follow volumes, fees, and open interest trends. Consider pairing exposure with hedges: e.g., long fee-exposed perp tokens while shorting basket perps during overheated funding, or basis trades if reliable. Use public dashboards and official docs to verify claims. For token categories and listings, see CoinGecko‘s AI check calendars like TokenUnlocks (link).Fee illusion: Protocols tout big volumes, but tokenholders may see little. Read fee flow charts, not just headlines.Oracle and smart-contract risk: Perp DEXs rely on robust oracles and liquidation engines. Review audits and incident histories.Unsustainable rewards: Double-digit “yields” solely from emissions are temporary; plan for step-downs.Regulatory exposure: Derivatives tokens can face heightened scrutiny in some jurisdictions; venue access may change quickly. Cross-chain compliance is cryptos hidden AML gap

Cross-chain compliance gaps at blockchain bridges are cryptos most dangerous AML blind spot, ThetaRay CEO Brad Levy says.Brad Levy, CEO of ThetaRay, says compliance teams routinely lose visibility at blockchain bridges, the point where assets move between different chains.ThetaRays AI flagged a UK retail customer declared as a packer who received over £134,000 from 40 counterparties before executing regular crypto purchases.Levy says any bank with a fiat-to-crypto blind spot will face regulators treating it as a governance failure within the next 12 months. Compliance teams monitoring crypto transactions lose the trail the moment assets cross a blockchain bridge. Brad Levy, CEO of ThetaRay, calls this the Cross-Chain Compliance Gap, the blind spot that emerges when funds move from Ethereum to a Layer 2 or alternative chain and the transaction data fragments at the crossing point. “Somewhere between where Ethereum ends and an L2 or alternative chain begins, the data becomes fragmented as the money moves through blockchain bridges,” Levy said. In 2026, real transaction volumes are scaling through these routes and legacy banks are encountering a frontier their AML systems were never built for. Why blockchain bridges are the gap no one is watching TRM Labs has documented that most illicit actors in 2026

Prometheum launched new infrastructure on May 25 allowing broker-dealers and registered investment advisers to offer tokenized securities and crypto assets through traditional brokerage accounts. The company positions the launch as a bridge between blockchain-based securities and the conventional financial system. “Crypto has solved tokenization, but it hasnt solved distribution,” said Aaron Kaplan, co-founder and co-CEO of Prometheum. “There are tens of billions of dollars of tokenized securities already issued on blockchain rails, but almost no mainstream distribution channel to reach investors at scale.” Why the distribution problem matters more than issuance More than $24 billion in securities products have already been issued on blockchain networks according to RWA.xyz data. Crypto.news has tracked the rapid growth of tokenised Treasuries from $380 million in 2023 to $13.4
