Trump Again Decries ‘Deranged’ Reflecting Pool Vandals—With Scant Evidence

Topline President Donald Trump decried the “Deranged Vandals” whom he alleges made a 300-yard gash in the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool Friday morning, vowing the accused will be “prosecuted to the MAX”—but photos of the now-drained pool do not appear to show such a cut. (Photo by Kevin Carter/Getty Images) Getty Images Key Facts Trump, in a Truth Social post on Friday morning, again claimed the pool was “so badly damaged by Deranged Vandals” and was “emptied as the massive slash gets repaired.” The pool began draining earlier this week and appeared to be mostly empty by Wednesday, though photos of the drained pool and reporters on the ground dispute Trumps claim there is a massive gash in the liner. Inside Robinhoods high-stakes bet to onboard 10 million casual users onto decentralized finance

Robinhood Chain briefly climbed to No. 2 in decentralized exchange (DEX) trading volume over the last weekend, prompting comparisons with some of cryptos largest networks. But Robinhood says those comparisons miss the point. The popular trading app argues that its opportunity is not to take volume from established crypto-native venues, but rather to leverage Robinhoods more than 10 million active users to bring new investors into tokenized assets and onchain derivatives. “Our opportunity isnt to take volume from existing crypto traders. Most people have never touched a perpetuals contract, not necessarily because they dont want exposure, but because the on-ramps have never been there. Were changing that,” Seong Seog Lee, Head of Product at Robinhood Crypto, told CoinDesk. “Users in over 120 countries can now access gold, silver, FX and crypto perps on Lighter directly within Robinhood Wallet,” Lee said. The bet appears to be that distribution, consumer relationships and wallet integration can bring its users, who may not be using onchain finance, into blockchain markets without requiring them to seek out specialist crypto platforms. The challenges right now are that the networks activity remains concentrated in speculative memecoin trading, while its original pitch for real-world asset business remains small. Robinhood Chain generated about $878

US Dollar: Risk-off support and DXY downside risks – Scotiabank

Scotiabank‘s Shaun Osborne and Eric Theoret note the US Dollar (USD) is broadly firmer as risk aversion dominates, with equities weaker and Oil higher. The US Dollar Index’ (DXY) broader drift from late June highs has stalled around 100.5 support, but late-week price action still threatens a bearish weekly close. They argue OIS pricing for a year-end Fed hike remains too rich, implying USD downside as swaps reprice. Risk-off flows and Fed repricing “Overall movement across asset classes this morning reflects a classic ”risk off“ swing in trading. The equity screens are a sea of red on renewed concerns about the tech/chip cycle and escalating US/Iran attacks. Bonds are mostly firmer across core markets, with Treasurys outperforming modestly.” “The broader drift in the DXY from the late June high has extended this week around the weak inflation data but DXY support around the 100.5 point has effectively held. Late-week trading has been a bit more positive for the USD, but the DXY still risks closing the week on a bearish technical note—which will point to more losses ahead—unless it can rally significantly over the balance of the session.” “Generally, we continue to think that OIS pricing for a Fed hike by year-end is too

Dutch crypto exchange collapses exposing customer balances’ true value amid multi-million-euro hole

Dutch crypto exchange Knakens operating company and its affiliated payments foundation entered court-controlled bankruptcy on July 16 after the Rotterdam District Court found that the exchange could not repay customers in full. The court said customers were locked out, payments had stopped, and a substantial coverage deficit had not been disclosed. The Dutch Public Prosecution Service told the court that about €7 million was missing from customer balances. The order confirms that management will not control the wind-down. Trustee C.F.W.A. Hamm now has authority over both Knaken Cryptohandel B.V. and Stichting Knaken Payments. Court control replaces Knakens payout plan Knaken argued that bankruptcy was unnecessary. It said criminal asset seizures, the service shutdown, and its custody structure already protected customers, and proposed an independent verification process followed by its own distribution protocol. The court rejected that route and put an outside trustee in charge. The public-interest petition took an unusual route. Prosecutors stepped in after blocked accounts and poor disclosure left customers unable to determine where they stood or to file a meaningful bankruptcy petition. Court control gave them a process outside the exchanges own books and proposed payout system. The Dutch bankruptcy trustee works for the collective body of creditors under a supervising judge. The

Bitcoin ETFs could mirror golds history of 'spectacular gains' and 'painful drawdowns,' analyst says

Quick TakeBitcoin ETFs are likely to test investors‘ patience, following gold’s path of “spectacular gains” and “painful drawdowns,” according to Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas.Comparing BlackRocks IBIT with GLD, Balchunas says sentiment-driven demand can produce both “price explosions” and prolonged periods of stagnation. Bitcoin exchange-traded funds may be following the same boom-and-bust trajectory as gold ETFs, with explosive gains giving way to decline and extended periods of stagnation, according to Bloomberg Senior ETF Analyst Eric Balchunas. “Both are wrappers around non-yielding stores of value that generate no cash flow, leaving investor sentiment—not earnings, coupons or government support, as with stocks and bonds—to drive performance,” Balchunas argued Friday in a post to X. The analyst added that the limited expansion of both bitcoin and gold supply can translate into surging demand that produces “price explosions.” But that demand can also be fickle, he said, arriving in waves rather than building steadily. Balchunas analysis comes as BlackRocks IBIT, the worlds largest spot bitcoin ETF, manages about $60 billion in assets — far below the $100 billion it briefly reached in October, when bitcoin climbed to an all-time high. The analyst said the iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) held above the $100-billion AUM threshold for only a few
