FTX Succeeds in Bid to Acquire Assets from Bankrupt Voyager

요약:Digital asset exchange FTX has now agreed to buy the assets of the shuttered cryptocurrency brokerage Voyager Digital Ltd. FTX purchased the assets after putting a winning bid during an auction of about $50 million, according to persons with firsthand knowledge of the circumstances.

The assets of the defunct crypto currency brokerage Voyager Digital Ltd. will now be purchased by digital asset exchange FTX. According to those with direct knowledge of the situation, FTX acquired the assets after placing a winning bid of approximately $50 million during an auction.

Sam Bankman-Fried, the billionaire, is in charge of the digital asset exchange.

As per Bloomberg, the purchase followed multiple initial attempts by the FTX to save or buy Voyager. At the end of March, Voyager, based in New York, had 1.19 million funded accounts and around 3.5 million users.

Liz Hoffman, a former Wall Street Journal writer, first announced FTX's victory in the auction and purchase of Voyager on Twitter. Additionally, she provided pricing information while citing unnamed sources.

She tweeted, Crypto exchange FTX is the highest bidder for bankrupt cryptocurrency lender Voyager. Purchase price of $50m but could ultimately be double that if AUM and other thresholds are reached. In July, Voyager submitted a bankruptcy petition. After Alameda Research's failed attempt to save it through a revolving credit line, it did so. Trading firm Alameda Research is connected to FTX.

A joint offer for Voyager was made public shortly after that effort by FTX and Alameda. Voyager rejected the proposal, calling it a “low-ball” offer. Alameda announced in September that it would repay the $200 million in Bitcoin and Ether it had lent to Voyager before the end of the month. Along with Voyager, Bankman-Fried has acquired a number of struggling cryptocurrency businesses, giving him access to their clientele and important technologies at a discount.

According to estimates, Bankman-Fried owns nearly all of Alameda, 70% of FTX US, and more than 50% of FTX. BlockFi, a cryptocurrency platform, and Robinhood Markets Inc., wherein Bankman-Fried has stock, were also potential targets for FTX's acquisition earlier this year.

A source claims that FTX is now gathering a $1 billion fundraising round. According to the individual who is familiar with the transaction, neither the closing nor the public disclosure of the agreement have taken place yet.

The corporation will reportedly raise up to $1 billion to maintain the prior value of $32 billion, while sources say that conditions may change. Negotiations are allegedly ongoing and secret. FTX Derivatives Exchange has completed its Series C investment round, which collected $400 million and elevated its valuation to $32 billion, as announced by Blockchain.News on February 1. Tiger Global, SoftBank's Vision Fund 2, and Singapore's Temasek are some of the current investors.
