Monero community backs 45 XMR proposal for core development

요약:Monero developer jpk68 is seeking 45 XMR for three months of full time work, with 31.04 XMR already raised from 42 contributors through community funding.

Monero has opened community funding for a three-month development proposal requesting 45 XMR to support full-time work on its privacy infrastructure, wallet software and core network improvements.

The Community Crowdfunding System proposal, submitted by developer jpk68, had received 31.04 XMR from 42 contributors as of October 26, representing nearly 69% of its funding target.

The developer is requesting support for 40 hours of work per week over three months, with 13.96 XMR still needed to meet the target.

Moneros official X account highlighted the proposal on October 26, directing community members to the funding page after jpk68 publicly requested support on October 23.

Unlike projects that maintain a dedicated foundation treasury for development grants, Monero relies heavily on voluntary contributions through its Community Crowdfunding System, which allows developers to submit proposals and receive funding for approved work.

Monero developer plans Tor and I2P improvements

According to the proposal, jpk68 intends to continue improving Moneros compatibility with anonymity networks, particularly Tor and I2P, while working on wallet usability, software maintenance and code reviews.

One of the planned changes involves adding support for the Tor Control protocol to monerod, Moneros core daemon software. The work would focus on allowing the software to configure onion services automatically, reducing the manual setup currently involved.

Another priority is investigating whether the existing I2P SAM implementation can be integrated into Moneros core wallet code to support connections through remote nodes.

The developer has previously worked on bringing I2P support to P2Pool and adding I2P SAM functionality to monerod and the Monero graphical wallet.

According to jpk68, the latter had remained unfinished for seven years before the developer contributed to its implementation.

Previous contributions include helping move the Monero GUI to Qt6, fixing software correctness issues, improving build performance and updating documentation.

Jpk68 reported approximately 50 merged pull requests during the first eight months of contributing to Monero.

The new proposal includes continued GUI improvements, anonymity network testing, reviewing other developers code and fixing bugs discovered during routine development.

Jpk68 specified that unfinished obligations from an existing crowdfunding proposal would be completed separately and would not count toward the working hours requested in the new funding round.

How Monero funds development without a foundation treasury

Moneros Community Crowdfunding System allows contributors to propose development projects, discuss their scope and request donations directly from the community.

Once a proposal has been accepted, it moves into the funding stage, where supporters contribute XMR toward the requested amount.

Funded proposals subsequently move into the work-in-progress category, with payments tied to agreed development milestones.

The system operates alongside Moneros General Fund, which accepts donations for infrastructure and other project needs. Individual CCS proposals have separate funding targets and progress records.

The official crowdfunding dashboard lists several development efforts covering wallet software, protocol research, security audits and maintenance.

Among the funded projects is a 500 XMR audit of Moneros FCMP++ integration, while another proposal allocated 120 XMR to full-time development work by contributor jeffro256.

Other funding requests remain open, including development of Cuprate, a Rust implementation of Moneros node software.

Jpk68 has requested that any remaining donations from a completed I2P SAM bounty be considered for the new proposal, arguing that the planned work involves similar development responsibilities.

The request does not establish whether those funds will be transferred, and the proposal remains short of its target.

Monero and Zcash draw renewed privacy market interest

The funding appeal follows renewed trading activity across privacy-focused cryptocurrencies, with Monero and Zcash attracting attention for different developments.

Monero gained more than 12% on October 22, climbing toward $650 as trading volumes rose and futures activity picked up.

The rally followed several sessions of recovery, with derivatives data showing growing participation in XMR contracts.

Zcash, meanwhile, has attracted institutional interest following the launch of a spot ETF on NYSE Arca in August.

The listing provided US brokerage investors with another way to gain exposure to a privacy-focused cryptocurrency, while Monero continues to face trading restrictions on several centralized exchanges.

A September report on privacy coins examined those exchange restrictions alongside efforts to support native Monero and Zcash swaps through decentralized infrastructure.

Development activity has continued across both networks. Zcash infrastructure developer Zakura recently proposed new wallet protections designed to limit the exposure of transaction histories during cross-chain swaps.

The proposal involves assigning separate viewing keys to individual transactions made through NEAR Intents, with wallet integration planned for supported software.

Moneros crowdfunding records, meanwhile, show that several contributors are already working on funded development projects, including FCMP++ integration, wallet improvements and core software maintenance.

The official CCS dashboard continues to classify jpk68s proposal as requiring funding, with the developer requesting community contributions before the full 45 XMR target is met.
