Five days after the 2026 FIFA World Cup concluded, UFC announcer Bruce Buffer is back home reflecting on a monumental, month-long stretch of assignments.
Before gracing the world‘s largest sporting event with his iconic voice, Buffer’s work took him to two titanic UFC events. On June 14, the promotion held their milestone event “UFC Freedom 250” on the White House lawn. This was followed by Conor McGregors return from a five-year layoff in Las Vegas on July 11 to culminate International Fight Week – the MMA equivalent of the Super Bowl.
Looking back at his involvement across both disciplines, Buffer said, “The last month has been like the epitome of the biggest shows that I could ever think of doing.”
“Beyond the Super Bowl, of course, which is on my bucket list for the future,” He continued. “It was an honor to be on the White House lawn. The fights that night were incredible. Seven fights ending with one of the greatest fights I think any of us have ever seen with [Justin] Gaethje and [Ilia] Topuria. And the honor of being there and putting all the politics aside, but the military and the first responders, the Blue Angels, the thunder, it was just incredible.”
“The Marine Band- everything, and think of all the history that‘s happened on the White House lawn and in the White House over the time that our country has been an exhibit. It’s just phenomenal. I stood there when they played The Star-Spangled Banner and the Jets flew over. And I got this video, courtesy of the UFC videographer, of my hand over my heart with the Jets flying over. It was just a moment you‘ll never forget. But it’s one and done. It wont happen again.”
Apart from the theatrics, the UFCs first and only appearance at the White House delivered with all seven fights ending in a finish. The main even saw American Justin Gaethje complete one of the biggest upset in the sports history by dethroning undefeated champion Ilia Topuria on the stool ahead of the final stanza.
With a tough act to follow, UFC 329, headlined by McGregors return against Max Holloway, delivered up until the top of the bill. After five years of waiting, fans were disappointed when McGregor was forced to a TKO just over a minute into the fight after sustaining injuries to his right knee.
Nevertheless, the magnitude of a McGregor fight night paraded the unceremonious ending, according to Buffer.
“All the buildup there, great night of fights, up until Conor got hurt and the fight ended really quickly,” Buffer shared. “And I‘m sorry for the disappointment there. It’ll take him over a year probably to come back from what hes going to go through.”

“But the night itself, all the fights were fantastic, all the way leading up to it. So just sold out crowd, the biggest crowd that the UFC has ever had at T-Mobile as far as ticket receipts. Selling out within minutes, typical Conor McGregor activity, right？”
Eight days after announcing Holloway victorious in Sin City, Buffer headed to New Jersey, where Lionel Messis Argentina team met a resilient Spanish side for the FIFA World Cup final.
Making the assignment more special was working with his brother, legendary boxing announcer Michael Buffer.
“I‘ve been Michael’s manager for over 30 years,” said Buffer. “We put together a deal with FIFA for both of us to announce where we filmed videos that were played at the quarterfinal games with us on the videotron. We werent actually in the stadiums, but the crowd reacted as if we were, and it was really fantastic.”

“And then Michael went out and appeared in Atlanta, and I appeared at the semifinal in Dallas. And then we had what I can only call the Buff-off at the FIFA Championship game, and it was just incredible. Incredible.”
Given a change of scenery from the aggressive nature of MMA, Buffer relished the togetherness inspired by an event such as the FIFA World Cup. Furthermore, he enjoyed being among a star-studded lineup of celebrities summoned as the prestigious tournament concluded on American soil for the first time since 1994
“The fact that it‘s watched by a billion, maybe over two and a half billion people around the world makes it the biggest sporting event,” he shared. “But the beauty of the FIFA World Cup is about bringing the countries together. It’s about love. It‘s about peace. It’s about everybody getting along, something we direly need in this country and in this world.”
“And to be part of that, along with all the other entertainers; Shakira and Madonna, BTS and Tom Cruise coming out doing meaningful, unscripted five minutes, Justin Bieber and all the people just having a great time.”
“Much less walking in the suite that I watch the game from. I got Tom Cruise and Shakira in my suite, Beckham next door, Madonna next door. Its an enjoyable experience.”
After 120 minutes, the Spaniards emerged victorious with a 1-0 victory courtesy of a Ferran Torres goal in the 106th minute to secure a second star for his crest. Impressively, Spains unwavering defense paralyzed Argentina and kept them from attempting a single shot through the duration of the match.
While his fandom lies in surfing, combat sports, and American football, Buffer became a fan of the beautiful game through the tournament and likened the final to the White House main event.
“I‘m more of a football fan now more than ever,” said Buffer. “In respect to people watching football is soccer. Soccer is football. But I appreciate and respect the sport more than ever. The athleticism of the athletes, the physicality, everything going in. You’re running 5, 10 miles in one game. Come on, tell me that‘s not a sport. Tell me that doesn’t take credible athleticism, just the ball handling alone. So, no, it was very entertaining, and Im a fan.”
“Very tactical,” he said of the final. “Argentina got outclassed and beat up. As good a team as they were, they couldn‘t pull the trigger. That’s what happens in sports. Its kind of like Gaethje-Topuria– two fantastic fighters, two fantastic teams, one domination.”
With the busy stretch behind him, Buffer offered insight on his scheduling, most of which still revolves around his work with the UFC.
“Usually UFC [events], I know about four, six months ahead of time,” he shared. “As long as I‘ve got the dates set for the shows that I want to work and that they want me to work. I can’t do all of them, of course. There are about 42 shows a year. I do probably 25, 27, which is a lot combined with all my other appearances.”

While Buffer opts to be in the moment and organic at work, the veteran voice of the Octagon remembers to appreciate the moments hes created for himself.
Additionally, he remains grateful and looks forward to the next assignment on his ever-moving calendar, the next one being UFC Fight Night in Belgrade, Serbia on August 1.
“I mean, it is another day at work, no matter how you cut it. But see, every day to me when I go to work is like my first day. So I have- you notice the way I announce; Im very passionate,” says Buffer.
“So that, along with cherishing each moment, but at the same time, these are memories I have forever. So yes, its a job like anything else.”
“You can imagine how I keep going back and thinking about what it was like to be at FIFA, thinking about what it was like to be at the White House. And those memories will be with me forever. But now Im on to Serbia. So on to the next one. Road warrior.”
