ApeChain picks Chainlink CCIP for APE and USDC migration

الملخص:ApeChain will replace LayerZero with Chainlink CCIP across the Yuga Labs ecosystem, upgrading APE, USDC and other key assets to the CCT standard.

ApeChain has announced plans to replace LayerZero with Chainlinks Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol, bringing APE, USDC, and other key assets into a new cross-chain setup across the Yuga Labs ecosystem.

Chainlink said in its announcement that ApeChain is deprecating its legacy cross-chain solution, with CCIP becoming the ecosystems canonical infrastructure, starting with Bored Ape Yacht Club use cases, ApeChain, and the APE token.

ApeCoin confirmed the outgoing provider in a separate post, saying: “We will be migrating from LayerZero to Chainlink CCIP as our canonical cross-chain stack.”

NEW: ApeChain is deprecating its legacy cross-chain solution & migrating to Chainlink CCIP.

CCIP is now becoming the canonical cross-chain infra across the entire Yuga Labs ecosystem, starting with its flagship @BoredApeYC use cases, ApeChain, & the APE token.

The change covers both the infrastructure used to connect blockchains and the standard used to move supported tokens between them. ApeCoin said APE, USDC, and other key ApeChain assets are being upgraded to Chainlink Cross-Chain Tokens, or CCTs.

ApeChain replaces LayerZeros token framework

ApeChains documentation describes its existing APE deployment as using LayerZeros Omnichain Fungible Token standard. Under that framework, a transfer debits tokens from a sender on the source blockchain and credits the same amount to a recipient on the destination blockchain, maintaining a unified supply.

The documentation lists APE across ApeChain, Ethereum, Arbitrum, Solana, HyperEVM, Binance Smart Chain, Monad, and Robinhood. The announcement does not provide a replacement route list for the CCIP migration.

Built as an Arbitrum Orbit chain, ApeChain uses APE as its native gas currency, according to its network documentation.

ApeCoin described the purpose of the upgrade as making connections easier for decentralized applications, communities, and their assets. Neither announcement ties the decision to a specific ApeChain exploit or identifies a security failure in its existing deployment.

The posts give no migration deadline, legacy shutdown date, or instructions explaining whether holders must swap tokens, bridge balances again, or wait for an automatic upgrade. No separate process for U.S. holders is described.

APE and USDC will adopt Chainlinks CCT standard

According to Chainlinks CCT documentation, the standard allows an ERC-20 token to be registered and configured for transfers through CCIP while its developers retain control of token contracts, token pools and cross-chain settings.

Token pools handle the movement of assets using different mechanisms. A burn-and-mint setup destroys tokens on one chain and creates the corresponding amount on another. Other configurations lock tokens and mint a representation elsewhere, or release existing liquidity at the destination.

ApeCoins announcement does not specify which mechanism will apply to each asset.

Chainlink says applications and bridge aggregators can connect to its router once to access registered CCTs, without building a separate integration for every token. Token issuers can configure transfer limits for individual routes.

The same documentation describes a registry that links each enabled token to its administrator and active token pool. The registry itself does not hold or move assets; CCIPs transfer contracts use it to find the pool assigned to a token.

CCIP fees depend on the transfer configuration

Chainlinks fee documentation says cross-chain charges depend on the source and destination networks, destination gas costs, message size, execution settings, and verification requirements.

The quoted cost can include execution, verification, token-pool and protocol fees. A token-pool owner may charge a flat fee, a percentage of the transferred amount or a combination, depending on its configuration.

Neither ApeCoin nor Chainlink disclosed an ApeChain-specific fee schedule, a projected revenue contribution or a LINK staking requirement for APE holders in the announcement.

On security, Chainlinks protocol documentation describes a default verification system requiring at least nine signed attestations from 16 node operators. Configurable limits cap token flows, while security-critical upgrades pass through a timelock review period.

Other ecosystems have replaced their bridges with CCIP

As crypto.news previously reported, Ronin completed its legacy bridge migration in April 2025, moving more than $450 million in assets to CCIP.

Ronins own completion notice included specific holder instructions: existing WBTC holders needed to swap into a new contract at a one-to-one ratio to bridge the asset. The notice set no deadline for that swap.

The completed Ronin migration supported transfers of 12 assets, including AXS, PIXEL, SLP, YGG, BANANA, USDC, WETH and WBTC, through its bridge application, according to the networks April 2025 announcement.

Lombard announced its own move in May 2026, selecting CCIP for more than $1 billion in Bitcoin-backed assets, including LBTC and BTC.b. Its official notice said the decision followed an internal security review and covered replacing LayerZero across several networks.

In July, Mantle completed the migration of its $2.5 billion Super Portal to Chainlinks cross-chain infrastructure.
