  • TRON activated build GreatVoyage-v4.8.2-PQ1-build1 on its Nile testnet, with support for the Falcon-512 and ML-DSA-44 algorithms.
  • The update covers transaction signing, block production, P2P handshakes and smart contract verification within the TVM.
  • Migration to the mainnet is projected for the third quarter of 2026, subject to approval through on-chain governance.

TRONbecame one of the first blockchain networks to actively upgrade its native cryptographic foundations to address the advance of quantum computing. The network announced the deployment of build GreatVoyage-v4.8.2-PQ1-build1on its Niletestnet, a mandatory update for nodes on that network that introduces support for two post-quantum signature schemesstandardized by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST): Falcon-512 and ML-DSA-44.

The scope of the update is quite considerable. It covers transaction signing, block production signaturesby super representatives, handshakesbetween P2P nodes and signature verification in smart contractswithin the TRON Virtual Machine (TVM).

However, the new functionalities do not activate automatically: they require a governance proposal to go through the network committees on-chain processbefore any transition to the mainnet, currently projected for the third quarter of 2026.

TRON is taking the next step toward long-term blockchain security.

The Nile Testnets post-quantum signature upgrade brings NIST-standardized quantum-resistant signatures to public blockchain infrastructure.

TRON Is Ready for the Quantum Threat

Most public blockchains, including TRON, use the Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA)over the secp256k1curve, the same cryptographic foundation used by Bitcoin. The concern among the research community is that a sufficiently powerful quantum computer, running Shors algorithm, could theoretically derive a private key from a public one, compromising the security of every wallet on any major network.

Falcon-512 and ML-DSA-44 are designed to resist that type of attack. Falcon is grounded in lattice-based mathematics, while ML-DSA-44 is a variant of CRYSTALS-Dilithium, another scheme selected by NIST. Justin Sun, founder of TRON, publicly endorsed the DAOs announcement, stating that the network will be the first to be resistant to quantum computingand that post-quantum security is a central demand of the artificial intelligence era.

The Industry Is Also Preparing

The Ethereum Foundationlauncheda website dedicated to layer 1 post-quantum readinessin March 2026, projecting improvements only for 2029. The Solana Foundationalready deployed post-quantum digital signatures on its own testnet. Meanwhile, CoinbaseCEO Brian Armstrong announced in January 2026 an independent advisory council focused on quantum computing and blockchain security, and Googleset 2029 as the deadline to migrate its infrastructure to post-quantum cryptography.
